Introduction¶
When developing or conversing with DeepSeek Harness, developers often switch between different model providers. If using unofficial or custom providers, it can be difficult to confirm exactly which one is currently selected directly in the input box interface. To solve this identification problem, a plugin is needed to help confirm the model source used in the current context.
What Is This¶
cknksnd/dsh-model-provider-badge is a pure browser-side UI plugin for DeepSeek Harness (DSH). It is maintained by user cKNKSnd. Its core value is to display the name of the currently used model provider next to the original model selector in the input box, helping developers quickly confirm the model source used in the context.
Core Features¶
- Display the Current Provider: At the bottom right of the input box, between the original model selector and the send button, display the name of the current model provider.
- Pure Browser-Side UI: It runs as a
dsh.clientline and does not involve backend logic. - Stay in Sync: It reads the session model catalog used by the original model selector, ensuring the displayed content updates in real time when switching models or providers.
Installation and Enablement¶
Before installing, make sure you have installed the Web profile (browser GUI) of DeepSeek Harness and the original model selection plugin @deepseek-ai/dsh-client-ui-model-selection (this plugin is part of the default Web composition and provides the service required by the plugin to read data).
Use the official CLI to install:
dsh plugin --profile web add dsh-model-provider-badge
After installation, you need to restart the dsh web process for the new client bundle to be included in the page startup manifest. When adding a new browser plugin for the first time, you may need to approve the Client package in the UI.
Typical Usage¶
The plugin adds a read-only badge on the right side of the input box. The badge reads the session model catalog and subscribes to changes, so when you switch models in the original model selector, the displayed content updates automatically.
Illustrative effect (located to the left of the send button):
... 模型选择器 [ opencode-go ] [ 发送 ]
Notes¶
- Dependency: The original model selection plugin
@deepseek-ai/dsh-client-ui-model-selectionmust be enabled. If this plugin is disabled, the badge will not display any content. - License: MIT licensed.
- Session Limitation: In addressed subagent sessions (specified sub-sessions), the badge will not render because the catalog is unavailable.
- Source Code Review: It is recommended to review the source code and license before installation; the plugin is open-sourced under the MIT license.
Conclusion¶
By adding a simple UI element next to the input box, the plugin addresses the pain point of confirming provider selection when switching to unofficial model providers. For more details or source code, visit the plugin directory or GitHub repository.
