Introduction

DeepSeek Harness (DSH) uses a plugin-based architecture. The appearance of the Web UI is typically controlled by the host’s built-in theme system. The bpz0726/dsh-bestui plugin uses an overlay mechanism to provide an adaptive wallpaper and appearance configuration solution for the DSH Web UI, allowing users to upload local images as backgrounds and independently adjust the transparency and color scheme of each layer.

Core Features

  • Upload an image as background: Supports selecting local images. Oversized images are automatically compressed, animated GIFs keep their animation, and settings are persisted in the browser localStorage.
  • Transparent component opacity: Provides independent sliders and a “Default” checkbox for the background base, second surface layer, and sidebar. Lower values allow more of the wallpaper to show through.
  • Custom element colors: Supports 14 design tokens and 9 additional element colors, divided into light and dark schemes. Borders are rendered using opacity.
  • Automatic color scheme: If a background image is present, colors are generated by Canvas sampling; otherwise, a neutral color scheme or the system light/dark mode is used.
  • Fonts and interface: Supports customization of font style, size, scaling, corner radius, and more.
  • Export/import schemes: Supports exporting the complete scheme as JSON for easy migration.
  • Easy to disable and restore: Based on the theme.overrideTokens overlay, it does not register a new theme ID. After uninstallation, styles are automatically cleared, and it can coexist with other theme plugins.

Install and Enable

To install this plugin, run the following command in the terminal:

dsh plugin --profile web add dsh-bestui

After installation, restart dsh web. The plugin will be loaded automatically on startup.

Typical Usage

  1. Go to Settings → General, and find “Wallpaper Theme · BestUI” under “Appearance”.
  2. Select Enable, then click Upload Image (JPG/PNG/WebP/GIF supported). After upload, a set of recommended opacity values is generated automatically and can be fine-tuned manually.
  3. Use the Transparent Component Opacity sliders to adjust how much each layer shows through.
  4. Use the Element Color pickers to customize the light/dark color schemes. This setting is independent of the wallpaper enabled state.
  5. To use automatic coloring, click Auto Color Scheme, and the system will generate a scheme based on the image.
  6. After configuration is complete, use Export Scheme or Import Scheme to save or migrate the settings.

Architecture and Compatibility

This plugin does not register a new theme ID. Instead, it stacks a token overlay through theme.overrideTokens. This means it can coexist with other plugins that register theme IDs. Visual effects are implemented with CSS variables, and the overlay is automatically removed on uninstallation. Building the plugin requires Node.js >= 18, but at runtime only a browser environment is needed. All configuration is stored in the browser’s localStorage.

Use Cases and Notes

  • Use cases: Designed for developers who need to deeply customize the appearance of the DeepSeek Harness Web UI, especially users who want to add a personalized wallpaper or adjust transparency/color schemes.
  • Notes:
    1. This plugin is a preview version (0.1.x) for the DeepSeek Harness Developer Preview. After a host upgrade, synchronization or adaptation may be required.
    2. The exported scheme JSON contains the complete wallpaper data. Please verify privacy and safety before sharing it.
    3. If the theme was previously switched automatically based on wallpaper lightness/darkness, you will need to manually switch the theme back in the host settings after disabling the plugin.
