During the use or development of DeepSeek Harness (DSH), consistent interface fonts and a good reading experience directly affect the efficiency of information retrieval. Existing interface customization approaches often require modifying configuration files, which is not intuitive. The dsh-custom-font plugin provides a “WYSIWYG” solution for adjusting fonts and typography, with immediate effect and automatic saving, and solves issues such as inconsistent mixed Chinese-English typesetting and migrating settings across environments.
Plugin Positioning¶
This plugin is maintained by Vergil-long and is positioned as a custom interface font plugin for DSH. It lets users modify the font, font size, bold, color, and layout of interface text in the settings page as easily as working with Word, with changes taking effect immediately. The plugin includes two open-source font families and a typography scheme recommended by the author, so users can get a consistent look without preinstalling fonts.
Installation and Activation¶
Install it using the DSH command-line tool:
npx @deepseek-ai/dsh plugin --profile web add dsh-custom-font
After installation, the plugin is automatically integrated into the DSH settings menu.
Core Features¶
The plugin provides the following core capabilities:
- WYSIWYG adjustments: Supports adjusting font, font size, bold, and color, as well as typography details (justified alignment, italicized blockquotes with a vertical bar, gray background for inline code, table header style, link color, etc.).
- Automatic system font detection: In Windows environments, the plugin automatically reads the installed font library (200+ fonts), generates a dropdown list for selection, and supports one-click refresh.
- Separate Chinese and Western font settings: Body text and headings can be configured with separate Chinese and Western fonts, ensuring numbers and English text follow the Western font stack and keeping the typography clean.
- Built-in font support: Includes STIX2Text (Western text font) and Latin Modern Mono Light (code font), two open-source fonts. These fonts are served by the local host only when needed and are not downloaded from the internet. Users can disable built-in fonts in advanced settings.
- Categorized management: Provides basic settings for body text, headings, and code, and supports level-by-level customization of h1~h6 in advanced settings.
Usage¶
- Open DeepSeek Harness → Settings → “Custom Font” on the left.
- In the three panels on the basic page, configure the font, font size, bold, and color for body text, headings, and code respectively.
- Click “Advanced Settings” to expand more options, including independent settings for h1~h6, built-in font toggle, and typography fine-tuning.
- Use “Apply Author Recommendation” to apply the preset typography scheme with one click, or use “One-Click Restore Defaults” to reset.
- Changes take effect immediately and are saved automatically.
Settings Persistence¶
The plugin saves the settings file to ~/.dsh/dsh-custom-font/settings. This design keeps the settings within the DSH configuration directory, so they are not lost when changing the desktop shell or reinstalling the environment. Settings can be backed up or migrated using “Export Settings” and “Import Settings”. In dark mode, the plugin automatically adjusts link color to a bright blue to ensure readability.
Technical Details and Notes¶
- Font sources: The built-in fonts of the plugin are licensed under SIL Open Font License 1.1 and GUST Font License, and the code is licensed under the MIT License.
- Permission requirements: The plugin reads Windows system fonts through PowerShell and does not require administrator privileges.
- Data security: Built-in font files are served only by the local host and are not downloaded from the internet.
