Introduction¶
The core architecture of DeepSeek Harness (DSH) is based on a plugin-oriented design. When debugging or running agents, observing the Agent state only through logs and UI text is often not intuitive enough. The dsh-codex-compatible-pet plugin aims to solve this problem. It introduces a Codex-style desktop pet that visualizes the Agent runtime status through animated feedback. This is a dual-side client plugin: the Node side hosts the pet resource files, while the Browser side renders the sprite sheets and provides the interaction page.
Core Features¶
-
Agent-state-driven animation
The pet changes its actions in real time based on the Agent runtime status. Supported statuses includerunning(running),waiting(waiting for confirmation),review(under review),idle(idle), andfailed. When the status changes, the pet automatically plays the corresponding frame animation. -
Codex-compatible model
The pet model is ported from the Codex source code and supports the standard sprite sheet format. It is compatible with 8x9 or 8x11 grid sprite sheets. As long as the manifest file conforms to thepet.jsonformat (including fields such asid, spritesheetPath, andanimations), it can be used directly. -
Multi-source resource management
The plugin includes pet resources from the Codex CDN. It also supports placing custom pets in the local$DSH_HOME/petsdirectory. -
Interaction and detail display
- Interaction: Click the pet to trigger an interaction track (such aswaveorbounce); mouse dragging is supported to change its position.
- Details: Hovering over the pet displays a Codex-style detail card, showing the latest user prompt, tool calls, and assistant output summary for the current session. -
Persistent settings
The pet selection, size options, and drag offset are saved in the browser’slocalStorage, so the state is preserved after refreshing the page.
Installation and Enablement¶
Install the plugin using the official CLI.
dsh plugin add github:youzhoujiMrLiu/dsh-codex-compatible-pet
After installation, refresh the DeepSeek Harness Web GUI page. The pet appears in the bottom-right corner of the screen by default. A “Pet” option appears on the settings page, used to manage the pet catalog and import custom pets.
Typical Usage¶
- Observe state: When the Agent is running or waiting for confirmation, observe the corresponding pet action changes (for example, running while active and standing while waiting).
- Trigger interaction: Click the pet to play interaction animations such as waving or bouncing.
- Move position: Press and hold the left mouse button to drag the pet to any position on the screen.
- Import pets: In the pet catalog on the settings page, import a directory file in
.codex-petformat.
Notes¶
- Display-only plugin: This plugin does not register Prompts, tools, or Schemas. It also does not affect KV Cache generation or requests sent to the Provider. It only provides visual feedback.
- State source: The pet state is fully sourced from the DSH session list. Currently, failed turns fall back to the
idleorreviewanimation; there is no dedicated failure animation. - Built-in resource download: Built-in Codex pets need to download resources from the CDN the first time they are selected, and they will not be displayed until the download is complete.
- Uninstallation: To uninstall the plugin, use the
dsh plugin removecommand. This removes the layer where the plugin resides.
Conclusion¶
dsh-codex-compatible-pet provides intuitive Agent status feedback for DeepSeek Harness. For developers who need to observe agent behavior over long periods, it is a practical visual aid.
