Foreword¶
In the DeepSeek Harness (DSH) ecosystem, plugins are the primary way to extend model capabilities. In academic research and model-assisted writing scenarios, models are often prone to hallucinations or citing unreliable sources. The @onpeople/dsh-academic-research plugin aims to provide fact-checking and literature retrieval capabilities through public APIs, enabling the model to conduct evidence-based literature reviews and writing in bilingual (Chinese and English) environments without relying on private database connections.
Plugin Overview¶
Name: @onpeople/dsh-academic-research
Owner: userInner
License: MIT
Category: Model Inference
This plugin provides DeepSeek Harness and OnPeople with a standalone dsh-plugin, adding a bilingual, evidence-oriented academic research collaborator that can work without account access or licensed database connections.
Core Features¶
This plugin provides the following capabilities:
1. Literature Discovery: Search literature through the public APIs of Crossref and OpenAlex.
2. Record Retrieval: Retrieve specific public HTTPS research records or paper pages.
3. Evidence-Aware Workflow: Supports evidence-based bilingual literature reviews, academic writing, citation checking, and reviewer response guidance.
4. Research Integrity Rules: Built-in rules that prohibit fabricating sources, data, citations, experiments, and peer-review statements.
Installation and Enablement¶
This package is designed for profile-scoped installation. Run the following command from a checked-out or installed dsh command in DSH:
dsh plugin --profile web add @onpeople/dsh-academic-research
After installation, restart the profile. This package declares a dsh.bundle patch, so the profile will automatically mount the plugin line. It will not be enabled in unrelated profiles.
Usage¶
You can directly ask the agent. For example:
Search 2020–2024 English papers on graph neural networks for recommender systems. Build an evidence matrix with title, authors, year, DOI, source URL, and evidence limits.
This plugin provides the following tools:
| Tool | Purpose |
|---|---|
research_search |
Search public metadata on Crossref and OpenAlex. |
research_fetch |
Read an allowlisted public HTTPS record or page. |
research_source_status |
Describe public source coverage and limitations. |
Notes¶
- Read-Only Tools: The search tools are read-only and do not accept credentials.
- Evidence Levels: Public metadata, abstracts, and full-text links are reported as different evidence levels; links are never considered evidence that the full text has been read.
- Developer Preview: DeepSeek Harness is in developer preview, and its plugin API may change.
Conclusion¶
This plugin provides a factual foundation for academic writing and literature reviews by integrating public APIs into DSH workflows. Developers who require high-confidence outputs are advised to review the source code and license before installation. For details, please visit the plugin directory or the GitHub repository.
