The core design philosophy of DeepSeek Harness (DSH) is “everything is a plugin.” In real-world use, developers often need to quickly manage sessions in the sidebar or bypass binding to a specific workspace while conversing. dsh-ui-enhancements aims to address these issues by providing a set of targeted UI improvements.

This is a small, focused UI enhancement plugin maintained by Unintendedz. It does not change DSH’s core logic; instead, it extends the UI layer to make session management and workspace switching more intuitive and efficient.

Workspaceless Conversations

The plugin adds a “workspaceless” conversation mode. By default, clicking “New Conversation” in the sidebar creates a workspaceless conversation. These conversations are independent of existing workspaces and have their own storage directory.

  1. Independent Storage: Each workspaceless conversation has an independent real working directory, with the path <DSH_HOME>/projectless/session-projectless-<uuid>.
  2. Preserved Functionality: Although not bound to a workspace, these conversations retain DSH’s native features, including the model selector, attachment upload, tool calling, history, search, branching, archiving, and deletion.
  3. Drafts and Attachments: Before sending, hovering over or clicking the “×” button in the workspace selector can switch back to “workspaceless” while preserving drafts and attachments. The switching behavior is implemented through DSH’s native draft transfer mechanism.
  4. Archiving and Restoring: Archiving and restoring operations preserve the original directory structure.

Workspace Activity Order

Workspace groups in the sidebar are sorted by “last updated” by default. The sorting rule is based on the last updated time of visible conversations. Collapsed workspace groups follow the same rule.

  • Automatic Sorting: Operations such as activity, archiving, restoring, deletion, and membership changes update the order, without needing to refresh the session list.
  • Manual Sorting: Switching to “Manual” mode via “View Options” disables automatic sorting and enables drag-and-drop reordering of workspace groups.

Plugin Toggles in Configuration Profiles

The plugin provides global plugin toggle control. In the settings menu, you can manage all plugins installed under the current configuration profile.

  1. Enable/Disable: Open Settings -> Plugins -> Plugin list to enable or disable each plugin package.
  2. Persistence: Changes are immediately applied to the host loader and are retained after DSH restarts. The state is saved in the configuration file’s cordis.patch.yml.
  3. Lock Mechanism: The toggle for dsh-ui-enhancements remains visible and locked on by default, preventing recovery controls from unexpectedly turning it off.
  4. System Protection: DSH’s built-in runtime entries remain read-only, because disabling core services may make the Web UI or plugin manager unavailable.

Quick Session Actions

In the sidebar session list, hovering over a session row with content allows quick access to action buttons without opening the native menu.

  • Action Items: Shows “Pin/Unpin,” “Archive,” and “Delete Now.”
  • Pin: Pinned conversations appear at the top of the workspace group or at the top of a flat list.
  • Archive: Reuses DSH’s native archiving functionality.
  • Delete Now: Opens a confirmation dialog. After confirmation, it stops the session, removes logs and records, but does not delete generated files, branches, or shared attachments.

Archived Conversation Management

The plugin adds a management entry for archived conversations in settings.

  1. Entry Location: Open Settings -> Conversations -> Archived conversations -> Manage. Even if the session list is empty, this entry is available.
  2. List Display: Shows the title, workspace name (or “workspaceless”), and creation date. Supports searching by title and workspace path.
  3. Actions: Hovering or keyboard focus reveals “Restore Conversation” and “Delete Now.” Restoring a conversation removes the archived flag and preserves its original state.
  4. Performance Optimization: When loading the initial list, it directly uses DSH headers and title checkpoints without reading conversation logs. Missing titles are parsed in batches in the background afterward, and log revisions are verified after 1 minute.

Installation and Dependencies

This plugin depends on a specific DSH version and backend architecture.

  • DSH Version: Requires DSH 0.1.5-rc.1 and its JSONL session backend.
  • Post-Installation Action: DSH must be restarted after installation so the plugin can track each conversation’s native lifecycle.

Ecosystem Context

DeepSeek Harness is an open plugin ecosystem. This plugin is maintained by the community and has no official affiliation with DeepSeek or High-Flyer AI. The plugin source code and license are available on GitHub.
