DeepSeek Harness (DSH) adopts an “everything is a plugin” architecture. When handling long conversations, quickly locating user messages often requires manual scrolling, which is inefficient. The following introduces the dsh-chat-history plugin. It adds a ChatGPT-like conversation history sidebar to the DSH Web GUI, turning navigation actions into intuitive visual interactions.
Plugin Overview and Features¶
dsh-chat-history is an MIT-licensed plugin developed by maintainer ttmouse. It uses a fixed Rail component to display navigation points for each user message along the right edge of the conversation log, solving the difficulty of finding context in long sessions.
Core features are as follows:
- Rail navigation bar: Displays a series of horizontal Bars along the right edge of the conversation log, with each Bar corresponding to a user message. The Rail remains visible as long as the session contains at least two user messages.
- Hover panel: Hovering the mouse over a Bar pops up a list showing the number and a single-line preview for all user messages. Clicking a list item jumps directly to the corresponding message.
- Scroll synchronization: The highlight state automatically follows the reading progress and positions at the first user message below the top edge of the scrolling viewport. After a click jump, the highlight state becomes “locked” at the jumped-to location.
- Click lock: When the hover panel is open, automatic synchronization pauses, allowing the user to browse the list freely without interruption. After closing the panel, synchronization resumes.
- Bar press jump: Clicking the Rail directly can also jump to the nearest Bar, completing navigation even when there is a gap.
- Data and styling: The plugin generates data entirely from the
user/steeringnodes in the session snapshot and uses only Design Tokens for style rendering.
Installation and Enablement¶
Before using this plugin, make sure you are running the DeepSeek Harness Web Profile (i.e., the GUI).
- Enter the Profile directory of the running GUI (for example,
~/.dsh/profiles/web). - Run the installation command:
pnpm add @ttmouse/dsh-chat-history
- In the configuration file for that Profile, add the plugin name to the
dsh.profile.bundlesarray. DSH’splugin addprocess usually handles this step automatically, but it can also be configured manually:
{
"dsh": {
"profile": {
"bundles": [
"@deepseek-ai/dsh-base",
"@deepseek-ai/dsh-web-app",
"@ttmouse/dsh-chat-history"
]
}
}
}
- Restart the
dsh webservice and refresh the browser. The conversation history Rail will then appear at the right edge.
Applicable Scenarios and Notes¶
This plugin is suitable for developers who need to manage long conversation context in the DeepSeek Harness Web GUI.
- Runtime environment: The plugin depends on the Web Profile environment. It registers to the
conversation.session.header.actionsslot, which means it is compatible with any published@deepseek-ai/dsh-client-ui-conversationand requires no upstream interface changes. - Layout impact: The Rail component is rendered with
position: fixed, attached to the scrolling viewport of the conversation log, and does not consume layout space in the Header. - Dependency management: The plugin is managed through npm dependencies. Before installing, check the source code and license (MIT).
Summary¶
Through a minimal interaction design, dsh-chat-history seamlessly integrates conversation history navigation into the DSH interface. It reuses ChatGPT’s mature interaction pattern, reducing the cost of context retrieval in long conversations.
