Introduction¶
The plugin ecosystem of DeepSeek Harness (DSH) enables developers to extend its capabilities. dsh-git-memory is intended to address the challenge of managing long-term context in agent development. It leverages Git features to provide a controlled, auditable, and rollback-capable long-term memory storage approach.
Plugin Overview¶
This is a Git-based memory management plugin maintained by developer starfishwrx and licensed under the MIT License.
Core Features¶
The plugin is currently at the compatibility testing / pre-alpha stage and includes the following verified features:
- Installable Bundle: Provides an installable package containing the
dsh.bundlemanifest. - Dynamic Context Registration: Registers stable dynamic context via
ctx.systemPrompt.context(). - Metadata Observation: Observes sessions or events at the metadata level only, without retaining raw conversation content.
- Human Commands: Provides the direct command
/memory status. - Model Tools: Provides the read-only model tool
memory_status.
Installation and Enablement¶
Before installing, ensure the environment meets the following dependency requirements:
- Node.js 24 or newer
- pnpm 11
- DeepSeek Harness
0.1.0-rc.6
Installation Steps:
- Clone the repository:
git clone https://github.com/starfishwrx/dsh-git-memory.git
cd dsh-git-memory
- Install dependencies and verify the build:
pnpm install
pnpm verify
- Add the plugin to the Web profile:
dsh plugin --profile web add .
- Dump the configuration (confirm the plugin is loaded):
dsh --profile web --dump-config
Usage¶
After installation, the plugin can be used in the following ways:
- View Status via a Human Command:
Start the Web profile, then enter:
/memory status
- Via a Model Tool:
The model can directly invoke the read-only toolmemory_status.
Security and Limitations¶
Because the current version is in compatibility testing, it has the following limitations and security mechanisms:
- No Memory Stored: The current release demonstrates that the DSH integration interface is feasible, but it intentionally does not store user memories.
- No Persistence or Writes: It does not persist conversation logs, does not perform background model calls, and does not write memories.
- Storage Path: The hosted repository is located at
$DSH_HOME/git-memoryand will not appear in the user’s source code repository. - Filesystem Restrictions: Memory tools do not accept arbitrary filesystem destinations.
- Sensitive Data Rejection: Sensitive values such as credentials, private keys, Cookies, and Tokens are hard-rejected.
- Git Operation Restrictions: Git remotes, pushes, and write operations outside the hosted repository are disabled by default.
- Source Status: The package has not been published to npm.
Conclusion¶
dsh-git-memory provides an approach to introducing Git’s version-control capabilities into long-term context management for DeepSeek Harness. Although it is currently in testing and does not include actual data storage functionality, its design principles (such as controlled memory transactions, localized storage, and auditability) lay the foundation for building secure agent memory systems.
