As the DeepSeek Harness (DSH) ecosystem evolves, enabling agents to participate in local knowledge base management has become essential. However, directly operating on the file system in a DSH environment carries risks: accidental writes or deletions may lead to data loss. The dsh-obsidian-channel plugin is designed to address this pain point. It provides DSH Agents with a controlled channel that can read from and write to a local Obsidian Vault while ensuring that all write operations are approved by the user and offering a one-click rollback mechanism.
This is a DSH plugin maintained by ShengenWu and belonging to the “Memory” category. Its core function is to bridge DeepSeek Harness with a local Obsidian Vault, allowing DSH Agents to read and write local notes. All write operations require user approval before execution, and any change supports one-click rollback.
Core Features¶
- Safe writing and approval: Agent writes to the Vault (create, update, append, delete) require user approval before execution. The default policy is “Ask every time”.
- Change history and rollback: All changes made by Agents are recorded. Users can view the before/after content in settings and perform one-click rollback. Rollback is itself a journaled change.
- Vault home page: Click the 📓 button in the sidebar to open the Vault home page, providing components such as Continue (recent notes) and Vault changes (change log).
- Assistant entry point: From the home page, click a note or shortcut (for example, “Write today’s diary”). The Agent starts a new Vault session for that item and places the text in the editor, waiting for the user to confirm sending.
- Path and configuration management: Supports using the native folder picker to bind a Vault. Daily note paths preferentially read Obsidian’s
.obsidian/daily-notes.jsonconfiguration, and custom ignored directories are supported. - Read/write isolation: The plugin blocks native direct writes/edits to the Vault and forces all changes to go through the
obsidian_*tools, ensuring that changes are recorded in the Journal. - Data operation capabilities: Agents can search notes, list them, organize them structurally, handle backlinks, and perform journaled moves (rewriting Wikilinks).
Installation and Enablement¶
Installing this plugin requires meeting the environment requirements: install and run dsh web (version 0.1.0-rc.6), and Node.js version 20 or higher.
Run the following command in the terminal to install it:
dsh plugin --profile web add github:ShengenWu/dsh-obsidian-channel
After installation, restart dsh web and visit http://127.0.0.1:3080 to use it.
Typical Usage¶
- Bind Vault: On first use, click the 📓 button in the sidebar, paste the absolute path of the local Vault (such as
/Users/you/Notes) in the popup, and click Bind. - Start session: In the Vault home page, click any note or shortcut (such as “Write today’s diary”). The Agent starts a new Vault session for that item and places the text in the editor, but does not send it automatically.
- Confirm and execute: After checking the content in the editor, send it to the Agent. The Agent will request approval before executing the write.
- Manage changes: In the “Obsidian” tab of the settings page, you can view the change history (Before/After) and click the rollback button to undo the last change.
- Configure approval policy: In settings, you can switch the approval policy to “Ask once per task” or “Never ask” (not recommended), balancing security and efficiency.
Applicable Scenarios and Notes¶
- Applicable scenarios: Suitable for users who need DeepSeek Agents to help organize, rewrite, or maintain a local Obsidian knowledge base.
- Environment requirements: The Obsidian application itself does not need to be running; only the file system needs to exist.
- Permission risks: This plugin runs with the permissions of the current dsh process. Although the plugin intercepts native writes, directly using Bash commands may still bypass the Journal mechanism and modify files directly. Exercise caution when handling sensitive data.
- Known limitations: Currently, the plugin does not support templates, weekly report reviews, or
[[autocomplete.
Summary¶
By providing a secure write channel and rollback mechanism, this plugin solves the pain point of agents operating on local files. You can explore more plugins in the Community Directory or view the source code and provide feedback on GitHub.
