Introduction¶
In the DeepSeek Harness (DSH) Web UI, editing previous inputs or rolling back to an earlier conversation state often requires manual operations or creating a new session. The dsh-conversation-rollback plugin is designed to solve this problem. It provides DSH with Codex-style conversation rollback, inline input editing and regeneration, and a right-side session outline rail.
Core Features¶
This plugin mainly provides three capabilities:
1. Edit Input
Users can click the ✎ icon in the action row of a user message bubble. This opens an inline editor. After saving, the host truncates the conversation log, retaining only records before that turn, and pushes the edited text to the Agent inbox as a new message, prompting the model to regenerate the response. The original response and all subsequent turns are deleted.
2. Rollback to Here
At the bottom of assistant responses, there is a ↩ button. Clicking this button (usually requiring second confirmation) deletes all messages after the current turn and continues the conversation from this point. This is a destructive operation, meaning the original response and all subsequent messages will be permanently removed.
3. Session Outline Rail
This is a new feature introduced in v1.4.0, merging the previously standalone dsh-session-toc plugin into it.
* Presentation: By default, it is a 26px wide strip along the right edge, with each user prompt shown as a checkbox. The checkbox corresponding to the turn at the top of the current viewport is highlighted (blue).
* Expansion: Hovering, clicking the ☰ icon on the strip, or using the Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+O shortcut can expand it. When expanded, it displays a list including turn numbers, timestamps, and “steer” markers.
* Jumping: Clicking a row in the list or its checkbox automatically scrolls to that turn and highlights it.
* Search: Typing keywords filters content in the currently loaded window. If no match is found, it automatically pages backward to load history (up to 40 pages) until a match is found or history ends.
* Scope: Only user and steering chat nodes are included in the outline rail. Blank inputs, image-only inputs, tool-call lines, and injected context are excluded.
Installation¶
Before installing, make sure which profile the DSH process is using (web or desktop).
dsh plugin --profile <web|desktop> add github:sharedcare/dsh-conversation-rollback#<sha-or-tag>
It is recommended to specify a specific commit or tag to avoid code changes introduced by later updates. This command adds the plugin to the selected profile and automatically registers it.
Typical Usage¶
Edit and regenerate
During the conversation, find the message bubble you sent, click the ✎ icon next to it, edit the text, and save. The system regenerates the response based on the edited content.
Rollback the conversation
If you are not satisfied with the current response, click the ↩ button at the bottom of the assistant’s response to reset the conversation to the state before that response and continue from there.
Navigation and jumping
In the outline rail on the right side of the conversation, click any row or checkbox to quickly jump to that turn and highlight it. The rail supports search, making it easier to locate specific content in long conversations.
Toggle the outline rail
Go to DSH Settings -> General -> Session Outline to enable or disable the right-side outline rail.
Notes¶
- Irreversible operation: Rollback is destructive; the original response and all subsequent messages are permanently deleted and cannot be restored.
- Image editing limitation: Editing input content that contains images is currently not supported.
- Operation limitation: When the session is running, is a sub-agent session, or has an unfinished turn, the relevant action buttons are unavailable.
- Outline rail scope: Only user inputs and steering messages are shown in the outline rail.
- Environment requirement: This plugin requires DSH to have the
webprofile (dsh web) or thedesktopprofile.
Conclusion¶
dsh-conversation-rollback significantly improves the flexibility of DSH Web UI conversation management by providing precise rollback and editing capabilities, along with an intuitive outline rail. For developers who frequently debug prompts or manage long conversations, it is a practical tool.
