Introduction¶
When developing DeepSeek Harness (DSH) agents, enabling the model to autonomously obtain domain name registration information is a common requirement. Traditional solutions typically rely on the WHOIS protocol on port 43, requiring complex text parsing or dependence on external binary files. This article introduces dsh-whois-plugin, which directly adds a whois tool for the model and queries domain data through the RDAP protocol.
Plugin Positioning¶
This is a DSH plugin maintained by rjn32s. It provides the model with a whois tool for querying domain name registration information. The plugin uses the RDAP protocol (RFC 7484/9082/9083), which is the structured JSON successor to legacy WHOIS, and does not require external binary files or port 43 text parsing.
Core Features¶
- Adds a
whoistool: the model can directly call thewhoisfunction. - RDAP-based: uses the modern RDAP protocol for queries, replacing traditional text parsing.
- No extra dependencies: does not depend on external binary files, and does not require handling complex text parsing logic.
- Authoritative queries: resolves authoritative RDAP servers through the IANA bootstrap registry (
https://data.iana.org/rdap/dns.json) and caches the result for 24 hours.
Installation and Enablement¶
Install it in a dsh profile:
dsh plugin --profile <name> add dsh-whois-plugin
Or install it directly from GitHub:
dsh plugin --profile <name> add github:rjn32s/dsh-whois-plugin
After installation, verify the configuration and start it:
dsh --profile <name> --dump-config # 查找 "# == dsh-whois-plugin"
dsh --profile <name>
Typical Usage¶
After installation, the model can directly call the whois tool. For example:
Look up the WHOIS/RDAP info for example.com
The model will execute whois({ domain: "example.com" }) and return raw RDAP JSON data, which includes the registrar, status, registration/expiration events, nameservers, and registrant entity information, if these details are published by the registry.
Applicable Scenarios and Notes¶
- Applicable scenarios: developers who need agents with domain lookup capabilities.
- Notes:
- Some country code top-level domains (ccTLDs) currently have no RDAP entry in the IANA bootstrap file. In this case, the tool will throw a clear error instead of silently falling back to legacy WHOIS.
- No API keys or network egress configuration are required, apart from outbound HTTPS.
- The plugin runs under the permissions of the current DSH process. Check the source code and license before installation.
Summary¶
This plugin simplifies domain lookup through the RDAP protocol and provides DSH agents with a standardized way to obtain domain registration information. For more details, see the plugin catalog or the GitHub repository.
