DeepSeek Harness (DSH) adopts a plugin-based architecture, allowing developers to extend Agent capabilities through plugins. However, when interacting directly with an Agent in the terminal, there is often a lack of visualized context management and streaming feedback. dsh-tui-en is a terminal-native user interface plugin designed for DSH, aiming to provide a Claude Code-style interactive experience while continuing to use the official DSH Agent, models, and tool services.

Plugin Positioning

This is an English-only fork of dsh-TUI (author: raktim-mondol), providing a Claude Code-style conversational, tooling, session, and full-screen terminal experience. It does not patch the DeepSeek Harness core; installing the plugin only enables the UI, and removing it leaves no residual modifications.

Core Features

  • Terminal-native interaction: streaming Markdown, structured tool cards (collapsed display), command and file completion, @ file references (line numbers supported), history search, message selection, inline or alternate-screen rendering, and English UI.
  • Timeline navigation: a Grok-style turn bar covering all turns (including collapsed turns); clicking a collapsed turn expands it and scrolls to the corresponding position.
  • Visible Agent status: real-time activity, segmented context usage, TPS, cache hit rate, reasoning effort, input/output tokens, and Git/session metadata.
  • Complete session workflow: supports /resume, /new, /workspace, /compact, /export, /btw, model switching, and double Esc to backtrack and branch a session.
  • Official DSH integration: connects to Agent presets, skills, MCP, goals, to-dos, sub-agents, and ask_user_question through existing services.
  • Long-session design: event-driven projection, differential output, message virtualization, replay merging, and bounded caching to prevent unbounded rendering cost and memory growth.

Installation and Activation

First, install the official CLI and plugin:

npm install -g @deepseek-ai/dsh @deepseek-harness-tui/dsh-tui

After installation, run it directly:

dsh-tui-en

Typical Usage

The plugin provides the following subcommands:

Command Purpose
dsh-tui-en Start the UI
dsh-tui-en update Update configuration and launcher
dsh-tui-en doctor Environment check (dsh/pnpm, configuration files, API Key)
dsh-tui-en version View version
dsh-tui-en help View help
dsh-tui-en --resume Resume the most recently selected session

Notes

  • Status: Currently in the Public Beta stage, suitable for daily use and extension work.
  • Dependency limitations: pnpm >= 11 may block dependencies with install scripts (such as @google/genai and protobufjs). It is recommended to add allowBuilds configuration in pnpm-workspace.yaml, or use dsh-tui-en update to populate it automatically.
  • Permission model: Please read the Architecture and limitations documentation to understand its permission model and terminal-specific behavior.
  • Compatibility: Does not modify the DSH core.

Summary

dsh-tui-en encapsulates the capabilities of DeepSeek Harness in a modern terminal interface, addressing the challenges of long-session management and context visibility. It is suitable for developers who need to run Agent tasks for extended periods in the terminal.
