When developing or interacting with DeepSeek Harness (DSH), if the interface language is Chinese, you may need to frequently switch translation tools when viewing search results, conversation titles, or plugin text. Chrome’s automatic translation is convenient, but it can globally affect the page experience and carries a higher privacy risk. The dsh-ui-translate plugin aims to solve this problem. It can locally translate only visible Chinese UI and content without enabling the browser’s automatic translation.

Core Features

Maintained by RadicalGitter, this plugin provides the following capabilities:

  1. Multiple backends: Supports three translation modes. It uses an offline vocabulary table by default; optionally uses “browser-local OPUS-MT,” which downloads and caches a model of about 110 MB from Hugging Face on first use and performs local inference in a browser Worker; it can also use an OpenAI-compatible API.
  2. Privacy protection: In “browser-local OPUS-MT” mode, the source text and translations remain entirely local in the browser and are not uploaded to any server.
  3. Visual interaction: Translated text is displayed using custom markers. The default is a purple overlay, and it can also be configured as a dashed underline or both. After hovering for about 0.65 seconds, actions such as “Show original” or “Re-translate” are revealed.
  4. Content protection: The plugin automatically detects and skips editable fields (such as input boxes and dropdown menus), code blocks, and elements with the translate="no" attribute to avoid disrupting entered content or executable code.

Installation and Enablement

To install this plugin, use the official command provided. After installation, the plugin is disabled by default and must be manually enabled in settings.

dsh plugin --profile web add dsh-ui-translate

Configuration and Usage

In the DSH settings page, you can configure parameters such as target language, backend selection, and marker style. It can also be configured via a Cordis patch, for example by specifying an OpenAI-compatible endpoint or model:

- id: ui-translate
  config:
    enabled: true
    sourceLanguage: zh
    targetLanguage: en
    backend: openai-compatible
    markerStyle: overlay
    endpoint: http://127.0.0.1:11434/v1
    model: qwen2.5:7b
    allowRemoteEndpoint: false

For dynamically mounted plugin text, if you need to translate specific read-only content (such as an injected context summary), you can add an attribute to the corresponding HTML element to opt in:

<pre data-dsh-translate="prose">可供用户阅读的注入上下文</pre>

Use Cases and Notes

This plugin is suitable for developers who need to view Chinese content in the DSH Web interface but require an English reference. The plugin only modifies Text.data and does not affect DOM structure, attributes, IDs, links, or listeners. Make sure to inspect the source code and license (MIT) before installation.
