DeepSeek Harness (DSH) is an agent development tool. During use, developers need to continuously watch for version updates. Manual checks are often time-consuming, and direct access to the GitHub API from mainland China networks is frequently blocked or rate-limited, making it difficult to obtain update information. The dsh-updater plugin addresses both pain points by providing automated update checks, visual version reminders, and network acceleration support.

Core Features

The plugin mainly includes the following capabilities:

  • Scheduled update checks: The server automatically checks once every 6 hours, and the client polls once every 30 minutes. The version number uses the npm registry (dist-tags.latest) as the primary source, while the changelog is fetched through a third-party mirror.
  • Version badge reminders: When a new version is detected, a red NEW badge appears in the upper-right corner of the logo in the top-left corner of DeepSeek Harness. Clicking the badge opens the settings window directly and automatically navigates to the “About” tab.
  • No repeated interruptions: A toast reminder is shown only once for the same new version, avoiding repeated user interference.
  • About tab: A new “About” page is added in Settings, displaying the current version number, latest version number, last check time, repository link, changelog, and an entry point for manually checking for updates.
  • GitHub acceleration support: It includes a built-in ungh.cc mirror (preferred) and gh-proxy concatenation (fallback), solving the issue of failing to fetch the changelog when direct access to api.github.com is blocked or rate-limited. It is enabled by default and persisted in the configuration file.
  • Upgrade instructions: The “About” tab provides the upgrade command (npx @deepseek-ai/dsh@latest web) and supports one-click copy.

Installation and Enablement

Installation and enablement require the following steps:

  1. Run the install command:
dsh plugin --profile web add dsh-updater
(You can also use `dsh plugin --profile web add github:onewilk/dsh-updater`.)
  1. Restart DeepSeek Harness to activate the plugin:
    npx @deepseek-ai/dsh@latest web

Configuration

The plugin provides a “GitHub acceleration” toggle:

  • Enabled (default): The changelog fetching order is ungh.cc mirror → gh-proxy concatenation → direct api.github.com.
  • Disabled: Only direct access to api.github.com is attempted.

This configuration is persistently stored in the $DSH_HOME/profiles/web/dsh-updater.json file, synchronized from the client to localStorage, and retained after restart.

Notes

  • This plugin is implemented in pure JavaScript and requires no build step.
  • After installation, the harness process must be restarted for it to take effect.
  • If your network environment is good, you can manually disable GitHub acceleration to reduce the number of requests.
