Preface¶
DeepSeek Harness (DSH) provides two core working modes: Chat and Work. Chat mode focuses on conversational interaction, while Work mode requires developers to have file browsing and command-line execution capabilities. In the standard DSH Work mode interface, both capabilities are missing. Plugin-based extensibility is a core architectural concept of DSH. omdsh-sidepanel is intended to supplement Work mode with these two necessary interface elements, giving it lightweight file management and terminal execution capabilities.
Plugin Overview¶
omdsh-sidepanel is a plugin designed for the DeepSeek Harness Web GUI and maintained by the community developer omdsh-plugins. It provides a file panel on the right side (with preview support) and a terminal panel at the bottom for Work mode. These two panels do not appear in Chat mode because Chat mode does not have a corresponding project directory.
Core Features¶
- File panel: Located on the right side of the interface, displays the file tree for the current session directory, and supports file preview.
- Terminal panel: Located below the conversation column, provides shell access capabilities.
- Control toggles: Toggle panel visibility using switches in the session title toolbar.
- Command interface: Provides the two commands
panel.filesandpanel.terminal. The specific key bindings are managed by theomdsh-shortcutsplugin. - Interactive operations:
- Resize: Drag the handle to adjust the panel width. Double-click the handle to reset it to the default size (320px).
- Copy path: Click the copy button in the panel title bar, or right-click a file/folder row to copy its path.
- Layout positioning: Panels are fixed to the
shell.overlaylayer. Margins of#rootand[data-slot="conversation"]are adjusted to avoid covering the main interface. - Settings storage: Panel sizes are stored under the
omdsh-sidepanel.panelskey inlocalStorage.
Installation and Enablement¶
This plugin can be installed through the DeepSeek Harness plugin center or its GitHub repository. After installation, the panels appear only in Work mode.
Typical Usage¶
- Enable panels: Find the corresponding switch (file panel or terminal panel) in the session title toolbar and turn it on.
- Shortcut commands: Use a shortcut key configured by
omdsh-shortcuts(such asCmdOrCtrl+Shift+E) to quickly open the panel. - Adjust panels: Drag the handle on the edge of the panel with the mouse to change its width. Double-click the handle to restore the default value.
- Get path: Right-click the target item in the file tree and select Copy path, or click the copy button at the top of the panel.
- Default terminal state: The terminal panel is disabled by default. If
omdsh-codemodeis also installed, the terminal is enabled by default.
Use Cases and Considerations¶
- Mode limitation: The plugin is effective only in Work mode. It does not render any panels in Chat mode.
- Dependencies: It depends on
omdsh-shortcuts(for handling shortcut keys),omdsh-chatmode,omdsh-basemode, andomdsh-codemode. - Feature boundary: The panels do not include an editor, Git interface, browser, or tab bar. They focus on lightweight file viewing and terminal execution.
- Security note: The plugin runs with the current DSH process permissions. Before installing, review the source code and license (MIT).
Brief Conclusion¶
omdsh-sidepanel completes the file browsing and terminal functionalities for DSH Work mode. Its concise sidebar design avoids making the interface bloated. For developers who need to manage files and run commands directly within Harness, this is a practical addition.
