Introduction

The DeepSeek Harness (DSH) web GUI currently provides two interactive tabs: Chat and Work. Code mode is a plugin that adds a third tab beyond the two. It embeds the DSH terminal into the conversation workspace, allowing users to directly operate dsh --profile omdsh-tui from the web interface.

Core Capabilities

  1. Terminal Column View: After clicking the “Code” tab, the conversation column is replaced by a real terminal view that runs in the directory of the current conversation.
  2. Sidebar Synchronization:
    • Terminal sessions appear in the sidebar, associated with the workspace in which they are running.
    • Sidebar rows display a red dot, indicating that the session was created by Code mode.
    • Executing /rename in the terminal or the name generated by the agent after the first turn updates the sidebar display through the OSC 0 window title mechanism.
  3. Session Management:
    • The “New Session” button starts a new terminal session in the current workspace.
    • Session names are uniformly generated by the plugin in the format code-session-<uuid>.
  4. Low-Level Transport: The plugin does not rewrite terminal logic; instead, it forwards the byte stream of @omdsh-plugins/omdsh-tui. The Socket is located at GET /omdsh-codemode/terminal.

Usage

In the DSH web GUI, click the “Code” tab in the mode switcher. This replaces the current conversation column with a terminal window and starts dsh --profile omdsh-tui in the directory. The terminal writes a session header at startup, after which it appears as a valid session in the sidebar.

Notes

  • No Core Modifications: The plugin takes over the view through a registration mechanism without modifying the core logic of Harness.
  • Terminal Lifecycle: The terminal process does not terminate immediately after the Socket is disconnected (such as switching modes or refreshing the page); instead, it enters a grace period and waits for a new connection to replay cached data.
