Introduction

DeepSeek Harness (DSH) is a framework based on a plugin system. The official runtime has only Chinese (zh) and English (en) built in by default, and does not support selecting other languages directly through official configuration. For users who are accustomed to using a Portuguese browser, a mismatch between the interface language and the browser environment is a common pain point.

negriniainda/dsh-locale-ptbr is a Brazilian Portuguese (pt-BR) localization plugin for DeepSeek Harness. It translates the Web UI into Portuguese and automatically activates when the browser language is detected as Portuguese, resolving the language mismatch issue described above.

Core Features

The plugin provides the following core capabilities:

  1. Full interface translation: Covers the main areas of the Web UI, including menus, settings, the chat window, sidebar, workspace, sub-agents, and workflows.
  2. Automatic language detection: The plugin detects the browser language. If the browser is set to pt, pt-BR, or pt-PT, and the user has not explicitly chosen zh or en in the settings, the interface automatically switches to pt-BR.
  3. Dictionary registration: Registers the Portuguese dictionary through the public API, ensuring that the translated content can be correctly loaded by the runtime.
  4. Bridging mechanism: Since the official DSH runtime only supports zh and en, the plugin adds pt-BR to the list of selectable languages through a bridging layer, making it callable.

Installation and Enablement

Installing this plugin requires DSH’s plugin management command. The plugin is packaged in dsh.bundle and dsh.client formats and can be installed directly by npm package name.

dsh plugin --profile web add @negriniainda/dsh-locale-ptbr

After installation, restart the DSH service or refresh the web page to take effect.

Typical Behavior

Based on the plugin implementation logic, behavior in different scenarios is as follows:

  • Automatic activation: If the browser language is pt, pt-BR, or pt-PT, and the user has not explicitly selected zh or en in the settings, the interface switches to pt-BR automatically.
  • Respect explicit selection: If the user has already selected English or Chinese in the settings, that explicit selection is respected and is not overridden by automatic switching.
  • Manual selection: Users can manually select Português (Brasil) in the language menu, and the interface switches to pt-BR. However, this selection is only effective for the current session and is not persisted to the official configuration file.

Known Limitations

  1. Session-level persistence: Manual selection of Português (Brasil) is only effective within the current session. Because the official configuration schema only supports zh and en, pt-BR cannot be saved as a long-term preference.
  2. Incomplete text coverage: Some fixed text has not yet been covered through the official locale mechanism (this is a known limitation of upstream dsh-client-locale). As upstream progressively exposes more text, the plugin will be updated accordingly.

Maintenance and Resources

The plugin implements translation by maintaining a complete dictionary file (lib/dicts.js), supporting synchronization and updates based on changes in the official upstream languages.
