Introduction

DeepSeek Harness (DSH) adopts a plugin-based architecture, designed to solve code engineering problems through tool combination. Facing large codebases, traditional global search or file reading is often inefficient or causes context overflow. The dsh-fovea plugin provides a “fovea-focused” repository intelligence solution: compile the codebase into a weighted typed graph, deliver high-precision information in regions the model is attending to, and keep costs low in regions it is not.

Core Capabilities

The plugin provides the following core features:

  • Repository Overview and Localization: fovea_sketch is for initial work in an unfamiliar repository, emphasizing production anchors and structural hubs while compressing test and remote areas; fovea_focus places the focus on symbols, routes, concepts, or files and reveals their semantic neighborhood; fovea_dwell expands the current focus scope without repeating already disclosed neighborhoods (default diffusion factor is 2); fovea_impact ranks files by “impact radius” and review order before cross-file changes, based on causal paths.
  • Interaction and Sync: When ctx.commands exists, register the /fovea command, providing commands such as status, reset, sketch, focus, dwell, impact; When ctx.skills exists, register the fovea skill; provide silent baseline calibration, and log guidance messages when the repository structure drifts significantly.

Installation and Prerequisites

Before installing, ensure your environment meets the following dependency requirements:

  • Node.js ^22.19.0 || >=24.0.0
  • pnpm 11.20.0
  • DeepSeek Harness service version 0.1.0-rc.6
  • Cordis ^4.0.1
  • Git (for tracking file discovery, baseline impact, and co-change history)

The installation command is:

pnpm dlx @monotykamary/dsh@0.1.0-rc.7 plugin --profile web add dsh-fovea

Typical Workflow

The recommended invocation order is:

  1. When starting work in an unfamiliar repository, use fovea_sketch to emphasize production anchors and structural hubs.
  2. Use fovea_focus on the most concrete task terms (can be combined with path, language, and kind filters).
  3. Use native grep or file-reading tools to precisely inspect the suggested windows.
  4. If the initial neighborhood is too narrow, use fovea_dwell to expand the focus.
  5. Before finalizing cross-file changes, use fovea_impact to assess the consequences.

Command-line interaction examples:

/fovea status
/fovea focus <query>
/fovea dwell [factor]
/fovea impact [files...]

Notes

  • Not a replacement for native tools: Fovea is intended to decide “where” and “why”; native grep or precise file reading should still be used to inspect the selected source code.
  • Configuration fault tolerance: Unknown configuration keys cause the plugin to fail to load.
  • Subprocess environment: The remote subprocess provider cannot execute host package binaries. In that execution environment, install ast-grep or set FOVEA_AST_GREP to a path visible to that provider.
