Introduction

In the DeepSeek Harness (DSH) Web interface, providing code context to the model usually requires manual copy and paste. This approach not only disrupts the workflow, but can also cause “draft pollution” (code accidentally appearing in the visible input box). To address this scenario, the dsh-codex-select plugin emulates Codex’s interaction logic, making it possible to intuitively select code or files in the file tree and viewer, and automatically converts the selection into message context.

Plugin Purpose

dsh-codex-select is a plugin designed for the DeepSeek Harness Web GUI and maintained by user light-only. It mainly solves the problem of “how to efficiently send a file or code snippet as context to the model in the Web interface,” replacing the traditional manual copy-and-paste approach.

Core Features

The plugin primarily provides the following capabilities:

  • Lazy-loaded file tree and read-only viewer: Displays the workspace file tree on the left, skipping the node_modules and .git directories by default; the right side provides a read-only file viewer, supports UTF-8 text, limits file size to 1 MiB, and rejects binary files.
  • Codex-style selection interaction: Selecting code in the viewer, or adding a file via the + button on a file tree row, automatically generates a “reference chip” (N lines selected · file name) above the input box, without requiring an extra button click.
  • No draft pollution and chip management: Selected content does not enter the visible draft text and is only serialized into a code block by the plugin codec when the message is sent. Clicking × on the chip clears the selection, and a new selection replaces the old one.

Installation and Activation

The installation commands are as follows:

dsh plugin --profile web add dsh-codex-select
dsh web

After installation, you need to restart the dsh web service for the plugin to take effect.

Typical Usage

  1. After installing and restarting dsh web, open a session and click the Files tab at the top.
  2. Expand the file tree on the left and click any file to view its content on the right.
  3. In the viewer on the right, select the code snippet you want to provide. A reference chip will automatically appear above the input box.
  4. Enter your prompt in the input box and send the message. The model will use the selected code as context directly.
  5. To remove the currently selected context, click × on the chip.

Use Cases and Notes

  • Use cases: Suitable for developers who frequently provide code snippet context to the model and want to keep the input interface clean.
  • Permissions and security: The plugin’s host routes share the trust model of the Harness Web server. Anyone who can access Harness Web can list and read absolute paths of the host account (consistent with the core directory selector permissions). The plugin itself is read-only and does not write or execute files.
  • Format limitations: The file viewer supports UTF-8 text only and limits file size to 1 MiB. Files exceeding this limit or binary files will be rejected.

Summary

dsh-codex-select uses chip-based interaction to make code context handoff smooth and free of input flow pollution. For developers accustomed to the DSH Web interface, it is a practical tool for improving efficiency. For more details, see GitHub or the DSH Plugin Catalog.
