Preface

The DeepSeek Harness (DSH) philosophy is “everything is a plugin.” When using DSH for agent development or everyday conversation, if you need to quickly switch between multiple independent conversations, or separate conversations from project workspaces, operating directly in the original interface can feel unintuitive.

dsh-chat-zone aims to add an independent “Chat Zone” to the DSH Web interface sidebar. It does not modify the official new-session workspace selector; instead, it provides separate entry points for creating sessions and managing history through a button.

Plugin Positioning

This is a DeepSeek Harness Web plugin maintained by lasdrder0705, whose core value is “one-click Chat Zone.” It addresses requirements on the Web side for quickly creating independent conversation folders, managing historical sessions, and adjusting sidebar layout.

Core Features

A new “Chat Zone” button is added to the bottom of the sidebar (next to Settings).

New chat: After clicking, it automatically creates a three-level folder structure ~/dsh_CHAT/<local date yyyy-mm-dd>/chatN, registers it as a DSH workspace, and directly opens a blank session bound to that folder. The numbering rule is the maximum existing chatN for the day + 1 (for example, if chat1 and chat3 already exist, the new one becomes chat4; deleted numbers are not reused).

Historical chats: The panel groups entries by date in descending order, with chatN entries shown in descending order within each group; each chatN displays its corresponding DSH session title. Clicking it continues that conversation (1:1 mapping).

Sidebar layout: The panel can switch between display layouts. The default is “Separated Display,” in which chat workspaces are hidden from the “Workspaces” list and the corresponding sessions appear under “Ungrouped” at the bottom of the sidebar; “Merged Display” restores the original effect, showing chatN entries mixed with project entries.

Installation and Activation

Run the following command in the terminal to install:

dsh plugin --profile web add github:lasdrder0705/dsh-chat-zone

After installation is complete, restart dsh web and refresh the page. A “Chat Zone” button will appear at the bottom of the sidebar.

Typical Usage

  1. After installation, refresh the page, and a “Chat Zone” button will appear at the bottom of the sidebar.
  2. Click the “Chat Zone” button to create a new chat; the system automatically creates the directory and opens the session.
  3. Click the toggle button inside the Chat Zone panel to adjust the sidebar layout (Separated / Merged).
  4. To delete or rename, use the system file manager.

Notes

The root directory is fixed as ~/dsh_CHAT.
The plugin does not provide delete/rename functionality in the CLI or UI, so the system file manager must be used.
If creation fails, a red error is displayed and retry is allowed.

Conclusion

dsh-chat-zone simplifies the creation process for independent conversations in the DSH Web interface through a sidebar button and automated folder management. For more details, see Community Directory or the GitHub Repository.
