Introduction

When using DeepSeek Harness (DSH) for long-running tasks, users often need to switch windows, minimize the interface, or handle other affairs. If a task completes at that moment, users may miss the progress notification. The dsh-away-notify plugin is designed to address this issue: it sends a system notification to Windows only when the user is away from the DSH interface and a task completes, avoiding interference with the current operation.

Core Features

  • Notify only when away from the interface: Detects the page visibility state and triggers notifications only when the user leaves the interface.
  • Task completion detection: Listens for agent state changes and triggers when a task state changes from running to idle.
  • Windows native notifications: Uses PowerShell and WinRT APIs to display a standard Toast notification in the bottom-right system corner.
  • Settings card integration: Provides a master toggle and test button in the DSH settings interface.
  • Configurable: Supports adjusting notification behavior via the configuration file and settings card.

Installation and Enablement

Install the plugin with the official command:

dsh plugin --profile web add dsh-away-notify

After installation, restart the dsh web service for the plugin to take effect.

Configuration

The plugin configuration file is located at ~/.dsh/plugins/away-notify.json. The default configuration is as follows:

{
  "enabled": true,
  "includeSubagents": false
}
Configuration Default Description
enabled true Master toggle. Disabling it stops all notifications.
includeSubagents false Whether to send notifications when a sub-agent session completes.

Testing and Logs

  • Settings card test: Click the “Test” button on the settings card in the DSH settings interface.
  • Command-line test:
    Invoke-RestMethod -Method Post http://127.0.0.1:3080/away-notify/test

The log file is saved at %TEMP%\dsh-away-notify\notify.log for troubleshooting.

Notes

  • Environment dependency: Node.js version >= 20 is required.
  • Activation method: The Client bundle must be copied to the node_modules directory to take effect.
  • Restart requirement: Restart dsh web after modifying configuration or code.

Conclusion

dsh-away-notify is a lightweight DSH plugin focused on a specific scenario (task completion notifications). It leverages the Windows native notification mechanism to ensure you don’t miss DSH task results while handling other affairs.
