Introduction

The plugin-based architecture of DeepSeek Harness (DSH) allows developers to extend functionality as needed. In the Web capability, the built-in web_search tool usually requires external gateway support to perform real web searches. The dsh-web-search-tokenrhythm plugin was created to solve this problem by connecting DSH’s built-in tool to the OpenAI Responses API of the Token Rhythm gateway.

What Is This

This is a plugin maintained by Joeytisaly. Its core purpose is to turn DSH’s built-in web_search tool into real search requests through the Token Rhythm gateway. The plugin reuses the user’s saved DEEPSEEK_API_KEY, so you do not need to register a new account or obtain a new key.

Installation and Activation

Installation requires entering the dsh configuration profile directory (for example, %USERPROFILE%\.dsh\profiles\web).

  1. Run the installation command in that directory:
   pnpm add dsh-web-search-tokenrhythm

  1. Edit profiles/web/package.json and add "dsh-web-search-tokenrhythm" to the dsh.profile.bundles array.

  2. Restart dsh web to activate the provider.

  • Real Search: Performs real web searches through the OpenAI Responses API of the Token Rhythm gateway.
  • Key Reuse: Automatically reads the saved DEEPSEEK_API_KEY without additional authentication configuration.
  • Automatic Mounting: Automatically mounts the provider when the plugin is listed in the profile’s bundles.

  • Automatic Retries: For transient 503 errors returned by the gateway, it automatically retries up to maxRetries times (default: 2).

Typical Usage

In the DSH chat interface, ask the agent directly to trigger a search.
Examples:
* “Search for XXX for me”
* “search the web for XXX”

After the plugin is activated, the agent’s response will include real source links from the search results.

Use Cases and Prerequisites

  • Prerequisites:
    • Your gateway must support the OpenAI Responses API with the native web_search tool.
    • The API key must be saved in the settings (default reference: DEEPSEEK_API_KEY).
  • Notes:
    • Search results may only return the URL of the opened page, without structured titles or summaries.
    • If the gateway does not support the web_search tool, this plugin cannot work.
