Introduction¶
DeepSeek Harness (DSH) provides a modular capability to build agents. jcs130/dsh-minecraft-agent is a set of DSH plugins designed to turn any Agent into a “traveler” in Minecraft. It is driven by a local LLM, enabling the Agent to autonomously gather, build, trade, and mine like a human player, and to perform magic interactions through chat.
The plugin adopts a dual-end architecture, separating the “world side” (server side) from the “traveler side” (client Agent). All interaction is done entirely through text, and the Agent has zero server privileges.
Core Features¶
- Zero API cost: Driven by a local LLM (such as llama.cpp or Ollama), it does not consume cloud Tokens.
- Text as interface: The AI and the world interact through chat. Spellcasting is done by speaking incantations in public chat, while prayers are performed through private chat.
- Dual-end architecture:
- World side: Handles server logic and magic rules, holds exclusive RCON permissions.
- Traveler side: Each AI player corresponds to an independent dsh session agent.
- Tool layer: Wraps Mineflayer capabilities, including movement, gathering, building, combat, item pickup, crafting, equipment, chest storage, trading, and more.
- Persistent memory: Supports preserving personal memory across restarts (base coordinates, resource locations, etc.).
- Persona profile library: Includes built-in example persona profiles for Kirito, Naruto, and others.
- Survival knowledge base: Includes the built-in tool
mc_wiki, providing survival knowledge such as monster weaknesses and food safety. - First-person vision: Supports offscreen WebGL camera screenshots.
- Control panel: Provides a Web management interface with features such as real-time status and 3D viewpoint.
Installation and Enabling¶
The installation command is as follows:
dsh plugin --profile mc add github:jcs130/dsh-minecraft-agent
After installation, the configuration file cordis.patch.yml injects the traveler-side plugin and creates a HarnessBot traveler by default. You can customize the name, persona, goals, model, and server address by modifying the configuration.
Typical Usage¶
- Start a local model (recommended, free):
llama-server -m Qwen3.8-27B.gguf --host 0.0.0.0 --port 8890 -c 524288
Set the environment variables to point to the local endpoint; no cloud Key is required.
- Start dsh and issue a command:
dsh --profile mc "进入方块世界,砍树、挖矿、活下去。"
- Run the test script:
npx tsx examples/test-mineflayer.mts
Environment Requirements and Notes¶
To run this plugin, the following conditions must be met:
- DeepSeek Harness: DeepSeek Harness (developer preview) must be installed.
- Node.js: The version must be 22.19+ or 24+.
- Minecraft server: Java Edition; tested with version 1.21.11; RCON must be enabled.
- LLM endpoint: An OpenAI-compatible LLM endpoint is required (local or cloud).
- Permission limitations: The Agent has zero server privileges; it has no RCON, no command execution rights, and no access to the magic ID table.
- Dependencies: It depends on peerDependencies, including
@deepseek-ai/cordisand related core DSH packages.
Summary¶
jcs130/dsh-minecraft-agent extends DeepSeek Harness’s “everything is a plugin” philosophy to sandbox games. It uses a local LLM and chat-driven interaction to provide Agents with a low-cost Minecraft survival environment, and it offers well-developed persona memory and tooling.
