Introduction¶
In DeepSeek Harness (DSH) usage scenarios, when an agent is running in the background or the page is minimized, signals for task completion or human intervention (such as approvals or questions) are easy to miss. dsh-ui-task-notify solves this problem by monitoring agent states computed by the host and triggering browser notifications and system prompts under specific conditions.
What It Is¶
It is a plugin maintained by ivvan3016, belonging to the network tools category. It does not render additional UI or send RPC. Instead, it uses the host/session-status and interaction request frames already received by the DSH client runtime to issue notifications to the operating system.
Core Features¶
This plugin provides the following capabilities:
- Browser Notifications and System Prompts: When the agent completes a task while the page is hidden, it triggers a Windows browser notification and a system Toast (with an audible system prompt), even if the browser window is minimized.
- Pending Interaction Reminders: Reminders are triggered when the agent is in a waiting state (approval is required, a question needs to be answered, or a plan review is pending).
- Status Reaction: It reacts to the host-computed agent state (running/idle).
- Configurable Settings: Adjust notification behavior via the plugin configuration card.
Installation and Enabling¶
Install using the official npm package.
dsh plugin --profile web add dsh-ui-task-notify
After installation, enable and authorize notifications by following these steps:
- Open Settings -> Plugins -> Plugin Configuration.
- Find the Task Completion Reminder configuration card.
- In the System Notifications row, click the Authorize button to request notification permission from the browser.
- After authorization, the button state changes to “Authorized”. When the agent completes work or is waiting for interaction, a system notification will appear if the page is hidden.
Configuration¶
In the plugin configuration card, behavior can be controlled by boolean fields:
- enabled: Master switch. When set to
false, the plugin stops working. - onlyWhenHidden: Remind only when the page is hidden. Defaults to
true. If set tofalse, reminders are also shown when the page is visible. - includeSubagents: Whether to include notifications when sub-agents complete. Defaults to
false. - interactionAlert: Whether to remind when the agent is waiting for interaction (approval, question, or plan review). Defaults to
true.
Limitations and Notes¶
- Depends on the Notification API: The browser must support the Notification API.
- Tab State: Closed or discarded browser tabs cannot trigger notifications; the page must remain alive.
- Sub-Agents Are Muted by Default: By default, the plugin does not remind for sub-agent completion;
includeSubagentsmust be enabled manually. - No KV Cache Impact: This plugin does not process prompts, messages, or KV Cache.
- Git Installation Restrictions: When installing via Git,
pnpmmay block the build. An allowlist entry must be added topnpm-workspace.yaml(see the GitHub repository details for specifics).
Conclusion¶
This plugin is suitable for developers who need to run DSH tasks in the background and want to receive completion or pending-interaction signals promptly. With system notifications, task progress can be tracked without keeping the page visible.
