Introduction¶
When having multi-turn conversations in the DeepSeek Harness Web GUI, it is common to follow up on a specific AI response. The usual approach is to manually copy the text or re-describe the context through the system prompt. This method is not only cumbersome but also prone to losing formatting or context details.
The dsh-add-conversation plugin provides a Codex-like quoting experience for the Web profile. It does not modify the DSH source code; instead, it intercepts selection events with browser-side scripts and converts selected text in the chat area into manageable quote blocks. The following sections describe how to install and use it.
Features¶
After you select text in the chat area, the plugin provides the following interactions:
- Select and quote: Select any text with your mouse in the chat message area, including AI responses or content sent by the user. A floating “+ Add to Conversation” button appears at the selection.
- Quote staging: After clicking the button, the selected content becomes a “quote chip” and is stored temporarily above the input box. The content is not sent immediately but staged as context.
- Limit: Up to 12 quotes can be staged simultaneously. A notification appears if the limit is exceeded.
- Preview and management: Clicking a chip opens a preview panel to view the full text. Each chip has an × button for removal. Press
Escto close the panel. - Automatic formatting: Click “Send” in the preview panel, or type content directly in the input box and press
Enter. All staged quotes are automatically inserted at the beginning of the message as Markdown quote blocks (> ...).
Installation and Activation¶
This plugin is a Web profile plugin and depends on the dsh plugin command.
- Run the installation command:
In a terminal or PowerShell, run the following command to add the plugin to the Web profile bundles:
dsh plugin --profile web add dsh-add-conversation
-
Restart DSH:
After installation, DeepSeek Harness must be fully restarted (close it and rundsh webagain) for the plugin to take effect. -
Uninstall:
To remove it, run:
dsh plugin --profile web remove dsh-add-conversation
Usage¶
After installation and restart, you can use the quote feature by following these steps:
- Select content: In the chat window, use the mouse to select the text you want to quote (supports selecting a single segment, up to 8,000 characters). Note that the button is triggered only when selecting within the chat message area; text in the input box does not trigger it.
- Add quote: A “+ Add to Conversation” button appears above the selected area. Click it. The text content becomes a quote chip displayed directly above the input box.
- Send message:
- Enter new follow-up content in the input box.
- Click the “Send” button above the input box (or press
Enterdirectly). - The system automatically merges all staged quote blocks at the very beginning of the message and then submits it.
Technical Notes¶
- Implementation: Pure browser-side implementation. The plugin injects configuration into the composition tree via the
dsh.bundle.patchmechanism and registers interaction logic using theconversation.composer.dockslot. - Styling: It prefers the client
stylesservice; if unavailable, it falls back to a built-in<style>element. - Content limits: A single quote is limited to 8,000 characters; the staging area supports up to 12 quotes.
- Positioning logic: When sending, if the input box already contains content, the quote blocks are inserted before the input box content, with one blank line between them.
