Introduction

DeepSeek Harness (DSH) adopts a plugin-based architecture, and the Web GUI, as part of it, also supports feature extension through plugins. The default interface is relatively minimal; for users who want to add visual personality during development or usage, a static background may not be enough. dsh-thirteen-bg aims to provide dynamic background support for the DSH Web GUI by introducing GIFs, videos, or static images, giving the interface a Live Wallpaper-like effect.

What Is This

dsh-thirteen-bg is a Live Wallpaper plugin maintained by feng78-boop, specifically for the DeepSeek Harness Web GUI. It supports setting local files or media resources from network links as the dynamic background of the browser window and includes built-in dimming controls to ensure the readability of foreground text.

Core Features

  • Multi-format support: Supports GIF, animated WebP, APNG, static PNG, and JPG images, as well as MP4, WebM, and MOV videos.
  • Automatic format detection: The plugin automatically determines whether to use image rendering or video rendering based on file extension or MIME type.
  • Rendering methods:
    • Video: Rendered using the HTML5 <video> tag, configured as muted, looping, hardware-accelerated, and automatically paused when the tab goes into the background.
    • Image: Rendered using CSS background-image.
  • Storage mechanism: Runs entirely on the client side. Configuration parameters are saved in the browser’s localStorage; local files uploaded by users are stored in IndexedDB, supporting file uploads of unlimited size.
  • Dimming slider: Includes a built-in slider to adjust background brightness, preventing the background from being too bright and affecting interface readability.

Installation and Activation

After installing the plugin, the Web process must be restarted for changes to take effect.

  1. Run the installation command:
dsh plugin --profile web add dsh-thirteen-bg
  1. After installation, restart the DSH Web service or simply refresh the browser.
  2. Hard-refresh the page in the browser (Ctrl+F5).
  3. Go to “Settings” → “General”, and find the “Dynamic Background” card.

Typical Usage

In the “Dynamic Background” card, the following two operations are supported:

  1. Upload a local file: Click the upload button to select a local file (animated images or videos of unlimited size are supported).
  2. Paste a URL: Paste a valid HTTP(S) media link.

After the setting takes effect, use the slider to adjust the degree of background dimming for the best visual experience.

Notes

  • Local path restriction: Browser security policies prevent the direct use of local file paths (such as C:\... or file:///...) as URLs. You must select local files via the “Upload” button; URLs can be used only for remote media.
  • Compatibility: The background layer is a real DOM element (div or video), mounted under <html>, and does not use pseudo-elements. Therefore, it has zero conflicts with skin plugins that rely on pseudo-elements, such as dsh-client-ui-skins and dsh-dream-skin; the dynamic background remains visible.
  • Performance recommendation: To ensure smooth performance, it is recommended that the longest side of images not exceed 1920px, video resolution be kept at 1080p, and file size be within a few dozen MB.
