Introduction¶
The Web composer of DeepSeek Harness (DSH) supports only image attachments by default. When you drag and drop a PDF, archive, or Office document, it usually shows a message such as “Images only” and discards the file. The dsh-file-path plugin uses RPC lookup against the local dsh process and inserts the absolute path of a file or folder as plain text, instead of uploading it as an attachment.
What Is This¶
dsh-file-path is a DeepSeek Harness plugin maintained by developer dkjsiogu. It addresses the lack of support for non-image files in the Web composer, allowing users to drag unsupported files into the editor as path references.
Core Features¶
- Supported file types
Accepts non-image files such as PDFs, archives, and Office documents. - Path insertion instead of upload
Inserts the absolute path of a file or folder as plain text; it does not copy or write the file. - Folder support
Supports dragging folders (requires a Chromium- or Edge-based browser with File System Access API support). - Mixed-drag handling
When files are dragged in a mixed batch, images follow the default behavior while non-image files are resolved by this plugin. - Interaction optimization
After the plugin takes over dragging, it clears DSH’s default full-page drag overlay.
Installation and Enablement¶
Use the official installation command to enable the plugin:
dsh plugin --profile web add dsh-file-path
After installation, start DSH Web normally to use the plugin.
Typical Usage¶
- Drag or paste
Drag or paste a non-image file anywhere on the page; the plugin automatically locates it and inserts its absolute path. - Drag a folder
Drag a folder onto the page; the plugin inserts the folder’s absolute path. - Manual entry
Click the paperclip button in the toolbar and manually enter an absolute path or a path relative to the session workspace.
Use Cases and Notes¶
This is a community plugin, not an official DeepSeek plugin.
- Security mechanism
Browsers cannot directly obtain the absolute paths of files due to security restrictions. The plugin must locate files through RPC with the local dsh process. - Scope of operations
It only inserts paths; it does not copy or write files. - Path limitations
If a file is not under a search root directory, manually enter its absolute path. - Source-code review
Installing the plugin means code will be executed in your local dsh process. Review the source code before installing.
