Introduction¶
During the development or use of DeepSeek Harness (DSH), when an Agent is executing a task or encounters a permission issue, users who are not currently in the DSH tab can easily miss these critical states. proactive-notify is a client-side plugin for the DSH Web GUI that aims to solve this problem using the browser’s native Notification API. It can run in the background, notify users through system-level notifications, and includes built-in sound effects.
Core Features¶
This plugin mainly addresses state synchronization issues in the Agent task flow:
- Permission and task reminders: When the Agent encounters a permission issue (such as a tool being denied or awaiting approval) or completes a task (becoming idle), it automatically displays a system notification.
- System sound effects: Uses the notification sound effects built into Windows, requiring no extra configuration.
- Approval notification readiness: Ensures that the system notification is triggered only after the approval prompt appears in the browser, avoiding cases where the user switches back to the page after seeing the notification but the approval panel has not loaded yet.
- Non-intrusive: Once notifications are working properly, no UI elements are displayed on the DSH page; interaction is performed only through system-level reminders.
- Opening guide: The first time the web page is opened, if notification permission has not been granted, a guide card appears in the lower-right corner to guide the user to enable notifications.
- Persistent loading: As a bundle plugin, once installed, it is automatically activated when the DSH process starts.
Installation and Enabling¶
Installation requires the dsh plugin command and depends on a pnpm environment.
- Run the installation command:
dsh plugin --profile web add "github:DemoJ/proactive-notify#main"
- Restart DSH to load the plugin (re-run
dsh web).
Usage¶
- Authorize notifications: The first time the web page is opened, an “Enable Notifications” card appears in the lower-right corner of the page. Click the card to trigger the browser permission request, and select “Allow”.
- View notifications: The DSH tab must remain open (running in the background is sufficient). When the Agent encounters a permission issue or completes a task, the browser displays a system-level notification.
- Manually reset permission: If you accidentally deny it, the browser will no longer automatically show the permission prompt. You need to click “Site Settings” to the left of the browser address bar → “Notifications” → “Allow”, then refresh the page.
Notes¶
- Tab state: The DSH tab must remain open. After closing the tab, the plugin cannot send system notifications (the background process can still run).
- Browser compatibility: Chrome, Edge, and Firefox are recommended.
- Installation dependencies: The installation command depends on a pnpm environment.
- License: MIT open-source license.
Conclusion¶
proactive-notify uses native browser capabilities to seamlessly sync DSH task states to the user’s desktop environment, making it suitable for scenarios where Agent tasks need to run for a long time and you want to monitor progress in real time.
