Introduction¶
In the development and debugging workflow of DeepSeek Harness (DSH), it is common to need to trace historical sessions, reproduce specific interactions, or analyze logic transitions. Bites the DSH is a plugin that converts the native session interface into a read-only replay view without opening additional panels. It allows the timeline to be controlled via the UI or scripts without modifying the original session data.
Core Features¶
This plugin provides the following capabilities:
- Native entry and controls: Provides an entry point and compact replay controls in the DSH native session header.
- Complete replay controls: Supports pause, fast-forward, reverse playback, single-step debugging, speed selection, idle gap compression, and direct jumping to events/turns/time points.
- Script control interface: Each session exposes an observable controller
ctx.sessionPlaybackfor controlling replay progress via scripts. - Preview and projection: Provides optional simulated typing preview of the next user message; performs historical projection through the native DSH
ChatView, with the source session and the current active state operating independently.
Installation and Activation¶
Run the following commands in the terminal to install the plugin and check its status:
dsh plugin --profile web add @ch4acko3/bites-the-dsh
dsh harmony status --profile web
Confirm that all four patches report as bound. Then reload the WebUI, open a session, and use Replay session in the native session header to enter replay mode.
Script Control Example¶
Other DSH plugins can control replay through the ctx.sessionPlayback service:
const playback = ctx.sessionPlayback
playback.enter(sessionId)
playback.seekTime(sessionId, Date.parse('2026-08-20T12:00:00Z'))
playback.play(sessionId, 1)
playback.pause(sessionId)
playback.exit(sessionId)
The parameter of seekTime uses a Unix millisecond timestamp, consistent with JavaScript Date objects and recorded event timestamps. The service also supports event/turn jumps, reverse playback, rate and idle gap settings, subscriptions, and position reading.
Notes¶
- Read-only restrictions: During replay, native editor, model controls, stop, branching, and assistant write operations are disabled, while viewing controls remain available.
- Compatibility: The current compatibility target is DSH
0.1.0-rc.8. - Runtime environment: Requires Node.js
^22.22.3 || >=24.11.1and pnpm 11.
Summary¶
Bites the DSH provides fully read-only, script-controlled historical replay capabilities within the native DSH interface. It is suitable for scenarios where session flows need to be safely reviewed or replayed during development. See the links below for the plugin directory and source repository.
