Preface¶
In multi-agent collaboration scenarios, version control often becomes a bottleneck. In traditional Git workflows, when multiple agents operate on the same repository simultaneously, issues such as conflicts, branch confusion, or unclear permission boundaries can easily arise. DeepSeek Harness (DSH) supports extensions through a plugin architecture, and the dsh-jj-vcs plugin is designed for this purpose. It introduces the version control capabilities of Jujutsu into DSH agent teams, using independent changes and clear ownership management to provide a more robust version control solution for multi-agent collaboration.
Plugin Overview¶
dsh-jj-vcs is a Jujutsu version control plugin for DeepSeek Harness agent teams. The plugin is maintained by the community developer bingfengaaaaa under the MIT license. It aims to solve the version management challenges in multi-agent parallel development by mapping agent tasks to independent Jujutsu changes, enabling clear ownership auditing and operation tracking.
Core Capabilities¶
The plugin mainly provides the following features:
- Independent agent workspaces: Creates an external JJ workspace and an independent change for each agent.
- Explicit ownership: Records task and agent information in the change description and verifies both during handoff.
- Auditable changes: Records operation IDs before and after task setup to ensure changes are traceable.
- Controlled publishing: Separately manages local edits, shared history changes, and remote-visible operations.
- Concurrency safety: Rejects conflicts, divergent changes, shared change ownership, and unexpected workspaces.
- Windows compatibility: Detects Git symbolic links and workspace aliases that may cause false-positive file changes.
Installation and Enablement¶
Use the following commands to add the plugin to a specified Profile (it is recommended to use a specific version tag for stability):
dsh plugin --profile <profile> add github:bingfengaaaaa/dsh-jj-vcs#v0.1.1
dsh --profile <profile> --dump-config
Typical Usage¶
Before using the plugin, confirm the JJ version. The command rules maintained by the plugin are based on jj 0.44.0. First, check the version:
jj --version
jj help
node <skill-dir>/scripts/verify-jj-compat.mjs --repo <repository>
In the actual task workflow, the coordinator needs to start a task and create the agent workspace:
node <skill-dir>/scripts/jj-task.mjs start \
--repo <coordinator-workspace> \
--destination <external-worker-directory> \
--workspace <task-agent-name> \
--agent <agent-id> \
--task <task-id> \
--base <explicit-revset>
After the agent completes edits, completion verification is required before handoff:
node <skill-dir>/scripts/jj-task.mjs finish \
--workspace-root <external-worker-directory> \
--workspace <task-agent-name> \
--agent <agent-id> \
--task <task-id> \
--expected-change <change-id>
Developers can use the following commands for local verification:
npm run verify
npm test
npm pack --dry-run --json
Applicable Scenarios and Notes¶
This plugin is suitable for teams that require fine-grained version control for multi-agent collaboration and care about operation auditing and concurrency safety. It relies on Jujutsu (jj) as the underlying version control tool, and the specific version should be locked to 0.44.0.
Note the following points:
- Standalone community project: This is an independent community project and is not an official DeepSeek release.
- Installation does not include dependencies: Installing the plugin does not automatically install JJ, initialize the repository, change Git remote addresses, or handle credentials. Repository initialization and remote-visible operations still require separate authorization.
- Permission tiers: The plugin supports dividing permissions into four levels: read-only checks, task-local changes, shared local history, and remote-visible operations.
- Windows correctness: The plugin includes correctness fixes for Windows environments to avoid false positives caused by Git symbolic links and aliases.
Summary¶
By introducing Jujutsu’s change model, dsh-jj-vcs provides clearer version control boundaries and operation auditing capabilities for DSH multi-agent collaboration. For enterprise-level or multi-agent projects that require strict version management, this is a community solution worth trying.
