Introduction

DeepSeek Harness (DSH) adopts a plugin-based architecture, allowing developers to extend the functionality of the Web interface. When developing or debugging in the Web environment, developers often need to quickly view or modify files in the current session workspace. dsh-right-editor is a right-side bar plugin for DSH Web that integrates file browsing and editing capabilities into the right side of the interface, reducing the need to switch windows or launch external editors.

This plugin is maintained by banttethai-ops and is licensed under the MIT License. By providing file operation capabilities directly within the DSH Web interface, it offers a streamlined experience ranging from browsing directories to editing text and viewing Office documents.

Core Features

  • File Browsing: The panel defaults to the current session workspace. It supports directory navigation, moving up to the parent directory, refreshing the list, and jumping to absolute paths by entering them in the path bar.
  • Text/Code Editing: Supports viewing and editing any UTF-8 encoded text file (up to 8MB). Edits can be written back to the original file by using Ctrl+S or the save button in the panel.
  • Image Processing: Supports png, jpg, jpeg, gif, webp, bmp, svg, ico, and avif formats. Provides brightness, contrast, and grayscale adjustments, as well as 90° rotation and horizontal/vertical flipping. Adjustments can be saved directly back to the original file.
  • Word Documents (docx): Supports viewing and in-place editing. Body paragraphs and table cells can be modified while preserving original styles, and changes can be written back to the original file.
  • Excel Spreadsheets (xlsx): Supports viewing and in-place editing. Allows switching worksheet tabs and editing cell content, with changes written back to the original file after saving.
  • PPT Presentations (pptx) and PDF: Both are read-only. Supports page-by-page text preview (PDF preview is based on text extraction, while scanned documents require OCR).

Installation and Enablement

  1. Prerequisites:

    • Ensure that DSH Web is running (via the dsh web command or the desktop app).
    • Install Node.js ≥ 20.
  2. Python Dependencies (Optional):
If you need to edit Word, Excel, PPT, or PDF documents, install Python 3 and the related dependencies:

pip install python-docx openpyxl python-pptx pdfplumber
If the libraries above are not installed, the plugin can still browse directories and edit text and images, but it cannot parse Office/PDF documents.
  1. Run Installation:
Execute the following command in the DSH environment:
dsh plugin --profile web add dsh-right-editor
  1. Load the Plugin:
After installation, perform a hard refresh in the browser (Ctrl + Shift + R on Windows/Linux, Cmd + Shift + R on Mac) to see the 📝 button on the right side of the top title bar.

Typical Usage

  1. Open the Panel: Click the 📝 button on the right side of the DSH top title bar. The right-side bar will expand into the file browsing panel.
  2. Browse Files: Click a directory to enter it, click ⬆ to go up one level, or directly enter an absolute path in the path bar and press Enter.
  3. Edit Text: After opening a text file, edit it directly, then click “💾 Save” or press Ctrl+S.
  4. Edit Images: After opening an image, use the sliders to adjust parameters, then click “💾 Save”.
  5. Edit Office Documents: Click the “✏️ Edit” button in the upper right corner of a Word or Excel file to enter edit mode, make changes, and save.
  6. View Documents: PPT and PDF files only support read-only preview and cannot be edited directly.

Applicable Scenarios and Notes

  • Permission Scope: File operation permissions inherit the authorization policy of the current DSH process and align with the user’s permissions for the current session.
  • Security Mechanism: Office and PDF parsing scripts are passed to Python via stdin and are not written to disk, helping avoid interference from files such as Temp/inspect.py.
  • Read-Only Limitations: PPT and PDF files only provide text preview and do not support modification.
  • Risk Warning: The plugin runs under DSH’s sandbox policy. It is recommended to review the source code and license before installation.

Conclusion

dsh-right-editor seamlessly integrates local file system browsing and editing capabilities into the DSH Web interface, making it well-suited for agent developers who frequently work with documents or configuration files.
