Introduction

The core design philosophy of DeepSeek Harness is “everything is a plugin.” In real-world development of long-chain tasks, the model may enter prolonged silence during computation or tool calls, and relying only on tool-call logs often cannot intuitively reflect current progress. This plugin introduces a Codex-style progress reporting mechanism, no longer merely counting tool calls mechanically, but communicating with the user based on elapsed time and meaningful work states.

What It Is

dsh-progress-reporter is a locally running DSH client plugin maintained by baiyuscc13724-max. It injects communication rules and silence detection, triggering progress reports at key task nodes (step boundaries) to help users keep track of the current state of long-running tasks.

Core Features

  1. Rule Injection and Proactive Reporting
At the start of a session, the plugin injects Codex-style communication rules into the model context. When a meaningful stage is completed, a blocker is encountered, or a user decision is needed, the model reports proactively.

  2. Time-Triggered Mechanism
When there is no visible text for about more than 60 seconds, the plugin inserts a checkpoint at the next official step boundary and asks the model to explain its state.

  3. Precise Control
It does not trigger based on a fixed number of tool calls, nor does it report every routine operation. After reporting, it continues working without disrupting the official Goal mechanism.

  4. Avoiding Disturbance
By default, it applies only to the main agent, preventing multiple sub-agents from flooding the output.

  5. Privacy and Security
It runs entirely locally, does not access the network, does not save sessions, and does not require an API key.

Installation and Enablement

This plugin is not integrated by default and needs to be installed manually in Harness Desktop.

# 在 Harness Desktop 中操作
# 1. 打开 设置
# 2. 进入 DSH 插件市场
# 3. 搜索 dsh-progress-reporter
# 4. 点击安装并重启 Harness

Configuration

The default configuration is located in cordis.patch.yml:

config:
  enabled: true
  intervalSeconds: 60
  includeSubagents: false
Configuration Item Description
intervalSeconds Maximum time without visible text, range: 15–3600 seconds
includeSubagents Whether to also require sub-agents to report

After modifying the configuration, you need to restart DSH Web.

Typical Usage

No additional commands are required during use. The plugin listens to the official agent/session-start, agent/pre-step, and session/event extension points. At session start, it injects Codex-style communication rules as model context; once the silence threshold is reached, it appends a collapsed plugin notice before the next step. After visible assistant text is detected, the silence timer is reset immediately. The model only needs to briefly state, in the current session language, that it is “completed,” “in progress,” “next,” or “blocked.”

Use Cases and Notes

  • Version Requirement: Requires DeepSeek Harness 0.1.0-rc.7 or a higher compatible version.
  • Boundary Limitations: Progress checks can only occur at step boundaries. If a single model request or individual tool call itself takes a long time, the plugin will not forcibly interrupt it.
  • Model Dependency: Report content is generated by the current model. A small number of models with poor instruction following may delay, and the plugin will remind again after the next full silence interval.
  • Privacy and Permissions: The plugin only reads agent lifecycle events and injects progress checkpoints visible to the model. It does not make network requests, call cloud services, or save sessions.

Conclusion

For tasks that require long execution times, this plugin can provide clearer progress feedback than bare tool-call logs alone. After installation, remember to adjust intervalSeconds according to actual needs.
