Introduction

One of the core design principles of DeepSeek Harness (DSH) is “everything is a plugin.” wan-tavern is a role-playing plugin built for DSH, encapsulating DSH’s capabilities into a “tavern mode.” This plugin allows the AI to take on the role of a “tavern hostess” in a virtual tavern, welcoming guests, remembering user preferences, managing character states, and providing a complete tavern interaction experience.

Core Features

wan-tavern provides the following main capabilities:

  • Complete Tavern Experience: Provides a “🍻 Tavern” entry at the bottom of the DSH left sidebar, opening a dedicated conversation card. The interface integrates the hostess’s standing artwork and a status panel.
  • Artwork Emotion System: Supports square artwork with a centered frame-break effect; the emotion border color changes according to the current state.
  • Ledger-Style State Management: Uses the manage_tavern_state tool for server-side atomic writes. The custom variable table supports three types: counter / meter / text.
  • Cross-Mode Global Memory: Whether in tavern mode or standard mode, 【Memory】 markers in AI replies are automatically captured and written to the memory API.
  • Visualized Tavern Settings: Provides a configuration panel to define the world setting, atmosphere, opening message, rules, and a custom state variable table.
  • Configuration Anti-Corruption Layer: Uses M6 schema validation to prevent illegal values (such as NaN, out-of-range values, or invalid keys) from being written into the configuration.
  • Self-Healing from Corruption: If the configuration file becomes corrupted, it automatically falls back to the last-good backup.
  • Diagnostics Panel: Displays critical information in real time, including the API base address, configuration source, and state authority source.
  • Zero Intrusion into DSH: All logic is encapsulated inside the plugin and does not modify DSH core code.

Installation and Enablement

Prerequisites

  • Node.js ≥ 20
  • deepseek-harness (host framework)

Installation Steps

  1. Clone or download the wan-tavern repository.
  2. Enter the project directory.
  3. Run the installation script:
node install.mjs preset

This script automatically copies presets/tavern to .dsh/.agent-presets/tavern under the DSH root directory and registers the plugin in dsh.profile.bundles.

Usage

  1. Start DSH and find the “🍻 Tavern” entry at the bottom of the left sidebar.
  2. Click to enter the dedicated tavern conversation; the workspace is created automatically on first access.
  3. Configure the world setting / custom state variables / initial state in “Tavern Settings.”
  4. Start chatting with the hostess; the AI automatically advances the state through the manage_tavern_state tool.

Notes

  • The plugin depends on Node.js ≥ 20 and deepseek-harness.
  • Configuration files (config.) and state files (state) do not overwrite existing user data by default, in order to preserve the user’s historical state.
