Preface¶
DeepSeek Harness (DSH) adopts an “everything is a plugin” architecture, aiming to improve agent capabilities through modular extension. In scientific research, healthcare, and finance, agents often need to access large amounts of structured data as a basis for decision-making, rather than relying on generic search results.
Academica MCP is a plugin that provides evidence infrastructure for agents in these domains. Through the Model Context Protocol (MCP) and Streamable HTTP, it transforms data sources such as PubMed literature, clinical trials, and SEC filings into structured read-only tools for DSH to call.
Plugin Overview¶
- Name: academica-sh/academica-mcp
- Category: Online tool
- License: MIT
- Function: Provides structured evidence retrieval for scientific, healthcare, and financial domains.
Core Features¶
This plugin includes eight independent read-only tools, covering the following evidence domains:
- PubMed: Retrieve biomedical citations, abstracts, author information, and journal data.
- Clinical Trials: Query clinical trial protocols, recruitment status, interventions, and outcomes.
- Open Payments: Track CMS transfers of value, manufacturers, and physician information.
- Healthcare Providers: Search NPI identities, specialties, certifications, and practice locations.
- SEC Ownership & Flows: Analyze 13F and N-PORT holdings, fund manager portfolios, and shareholder changes.
- SEC Filings & Fundamentals: Query SEC filing sections, XBRL facts and metrics, and disclosure discrepancies.
- Provider & Account Intelligence: Provide provider identity intelligence, organizational relationships, utilization rates, and market comparisons.
- Reimbursement & Market Access: Retrieve native rates, code-level evidence, and observed procedure volumes.
All data are provided through authenticated Streamable HTTP interfaces, and source identifiers are retained in results to trace original records.
Installation and Enablement¶
Installing this plugin must be done in Harness’s web configuration profile. After installation, specific data domains can be enabled individually using the /plugin command.
- Obtain an API key and configure the environment variable:
export ACADEMICA_API_KEY="ak_…"
- Add the plugin to DSH:
dsh plugin --profile web add github:academica-sh/academica-mcp
Usage Examples¶
After installation, specific server instances can be loaded as needed. The following commands can be executed in the DSH interactive interface:
/plugin install academica-pubmed@academica
/plugin install academica-clinical-trials@academica
/plugin install academica-open-payments@academica
/plugin install academica-hcp@academica
/plugin install academica-sec-ownership@academica
/plugin install academica-sec-filings@academica
/plugin install academica-provider-market@academica
/plugin install academica-reimbursement@academica
Use Cases and Notes¶
- Use Cases: Suitable for agent scenarios that require access to professional databases (such as PubMed and SEC) for fact-checking, literature reviews, or due diligence.
- Read-Only Access: All tools are read-only and do not involve write operations.
- Evidence Nature: Retrieved records are research evidence intended to support decision-making; they cannot replace medical advice or professional legal opinions.
- Source Traceability: Results include source identifiers (such as PMID and NCT ID), which can be used to inspect corresponding original records.
- Security: Please review the repository source code and license before installation.
Summary¶
Academica MCP provides DeepSeek Harness with a standardized interface for connecting scientific, healthcare, and financial data. By following a fact-first principle, it helps agents obtain structured evidence rather than raw web page text.
