When developing agents in DeepSeek Harness (DSH), developers often need to maintain context across different sessions or jot down ideas temporarily. Recording directly in the chat box can easily interrupt streaming output and is difficult to manage. The dsh-notepad plugin embeds a Web GUI to provide a persistent notepad window, solving the problems of environment fragmentation and context loss.
This is a client-side plugin maintained by 43456-awa. Its core value is a “dual-scope” persistent note system and Agent toolchain integration, making it a local knowledge base accessible to agents.
Core Features¶
Dual Scope and Persistence¶
The plugin provides two scope modes:
* Global page: Content is shared across all sessions.
* Session-isolated page: Content is visible only in the current session.
You can switch between them or view them side by side.
Input content is automatically saved to ~/.dsh/notepad/notes.md (UTF-8 BOM, atomic writes, revision-based optimistic locking). If saving fails, the system retries automatically; if unsaved content is detected during page refresh, one-click restore is supported.
Synchronization and History¶
It uses SSE real-time push + polling fallback to ensure synchronization reliability. Before each save, the system automatically archives 20 historical snapshots, which can be retrieved or restored via the /api/notepad/history endpoint.
Agent Tool Integration¶
The plugin exposes three tool interfaces that agents can call directly:
* notepad_read: Read note content.
* notepad_write: Write note content (supports append with line-level deduplication and optional timestamps).
* notepad_search: Search notes across scopes.
UI Interactions¶
- The window can be dragged to any position, locked, and resized in width; it automatically collapses on narrow screens.
- Supports Markdown preview (checkbox clickable).
- Pure client-side styling follows DSH’s light and dark themes.
- Shortcuts:
Ctrl+Enterto save immediately,Escto collapse.
Installation and Enablement¶
Install using the official command:
dsh plugin --profile web add dsh-notepad
After installation, restart dsh web and refresh the page. The notepad panel will appear on the right side of the interface.
Typical Usage and Development¶
Regular Use¶
After restarting and refreshing the page, you can record notes in the right-side panel. To uninstall, use:
dsh plugin --profile web remove dsh-notepad
(Note: After uninstallation, note files are retained locally by default).
Local Development¶
If you need to modify the source code, the source code must be placed within the ~/.dsh/profiles/ tree. Use the link: installation method to ensure the source path resolves correctly, allowing access to host-provided dependencies in profiles/node_modules:
# <yourProfileDir> is the actual path under ~/.dsh/profiles/
dsh plugin --profile web add link:<yourProfileDir>/dsh-notepad
Notes¶
- Source Code Location: The source code must be placed within the
~/.dsh/profiles/tree. If located outside the tree, it cannot access the@deepseek-ai/*dependencies in the host’sprofiles/node_modules. - Conflict Handling: When concurrent saving causes a version conflict, the API returns a 409 status code.
