Introduction

DeepSeek Harness stores conversations as an append-only event log. A simple deletion operation cannot correctly rewrite context and may corrupt artifact files. dsh-retrace is intended to provide Recall, Edit-and-resend, Regenerate, and version control for conversations and artifacts on Web and Desktop, acting as the agent business layer to keep logs from being “dirty” and ensure that /compact operations do not corrupt them.

Plugin Overview

dsh-retrace is a client plugin for DeepSeek Harness, maintained by yamingmou and released under the MIT License. It provides production-grade guarantees and supports timelines for conversations and artifacts, rollback, and clicking from a version to jump back to the conversation. By default, the plugin retains the most recent N version snapshots and automatically maintains storage through a background cleanup mechanism.

Core Features

The plugin provides the following core capabilities:

  1. Recall (Undo)
    Removes an entire conversation turn (including user input, assistant replies, and tool lines). The recalled input text is echoed into the editor so the user can re-ask or edit it.

  2. Edit-and-resend
    Edits a user message and resends it. By default, only the edited turn is replaced; a “fresh conversation” mode can be enabled to reset the entire conversation surface.

  3. Regenerate
    Regenerates an assistant reply and hides that reply and everything after it.

  4. Conversation/Artifact Version Control
    Supports timeline views, artifact rollback (context/artifact/both), and clicking a version to jump back to the conversation.

  5. Write Safety and Deep Checks
    Provides write-safety guarantees to prevent log corruption; includes 30+ contract rules for deep offline checks; and has detection, repair, and prevention mechanisms.

Installation and Enabling

The plugin requires DeepSeek Harness and its dsh CLI environment.

Use the official CLI to install it:

dsh plugin --profile desktop add dsh-retrace

If the CLI is unavailable, you can find and install dsh-retrace in Settings -> Plugin Market.

After installation, DeepSeek Harness must be restarted. A running application does not support hot-reloading plugin bundles.

Typical Usage

  1. Recall or Regenerate: Hover over an assistant reply, then click ↩ (Recall) or ↻ (Regenerate).
  2. Edit and re-send: Hover over a user message, then click ✎ (Edit & re-send).
  3. Version rollback: In the conversation view, find the Versions tab, then select the corresponding version to roll back or jump to it.

Notes

  • The plugin runs with the permissions of the current DSH process. Please review the source code and license before installing.
  • The application must be restarted after installation for the plugin to take effect.
  • The plugin retains the most recent N versions by default and is automatically maintained through a background cleanup mechanism.
