Introduction¶
When the DeepSeek Harness (DSH) Web GUI handles long-running tasks or background sessions, users often find it difficult to tell when output has finished. The dsh-ui-notify plugin solves this information gap by playing an embedded chime. It is a pure Web plugin that does not rely on host services or tool registration and operates directly at the browser rendering layer.
Plugin Positioning¶
This is a standalone DSH plugin maintained by xingke-seeker. Its core function is to notify the user with a built-in chime when session output ends. All settings are stored in the browser’s localStorage and remain effective after a page reload.
Core Features¶
- Completion Chime: Automatically plays the selected chime when session output is complete.
- Persistent Configuration: All preferences (enable/disable toggle, volume, background/foreground behavior) are saved in local storage.
- Pure Web Implementation: It does not register host services, tools, or session log entries, and exists only as a UI component.
- Flexible Configuration: It can be controlled through Settings -> General -> Notifications. You can toggle it on/off, select a chime (built-in Chime 1-3), set volume (0-100%), and choose the trigger scope (background sessions only or any session).
Installation and Enablement¶
This plugin is published in the npm registry. Ensure your DSH environment is properly set up before installing.
Install¶
dsh plugin --profile web add dsh-ui-notify
After installation, restart the Web Profile (dsh --profile web) to load the plugin metadata. No build step is required; the published tarball already includes the compiled lib/ directory.
Update¶
dsh plugin --profile web up dsh-ui-notify
Typical Usage¶
- After installation, open Settings in the DSH Web interface.
- Go to the General page.
- Find the Notifications row.
- Turn on Enable reminders (enabled by default).
- Adjust the chime and volume as needed, and select the trigger scope (default is Background).
Applicable Scenarios and Cautions¶
- Browser limitations: Browser autoplay policies require a user gesture (such as a click or tap) to unlock audio playback. If the plugin tries to play before the user has interacted with the page, the audio will be muted.
- Queuing mechanism: If multiple sessions complete before audio is unlocked, unplayed sounds are queued and played sequentially on the user’s next gesture.
- Independence: The plugin has no official endorsement and exists only as a community plugin.
Summary¶
dsh-ui-notify adds an audio feedback layer to the DSH Web interface. It is suitable for developers who run long-running tasks in the background and want to be notified immediately when they finish. For more details and source code, see the GitHub repository.
