Introduction¶
DeepSeek Harness (DSH) uses a plug-in architecture that allows developers to extend functionality through different plugins. wallpaper-engine-dsh is a DSH plugin package designed to meet the need for directly using the local Wallpaper Engine wallpaper library in the DSH Web interface (dsh web).
The plugin was developed by maintainer Weilv-D. It renders local Wallpaper Engine projects (video and web wallpapers) as the background of the Web interface, replacing the original static or single-resource background.
Core Features¶
Wallpaper Library and Search
When the plugin starts, it scans the local Wallpaper Engine library. The grid list displays all wallpapers that can be rendered by the browser (video and web wallpapers). The search box supports quick filtering by title or Workshop ID. Scene and application wallpapers (.pkg) are not listed because they use a private format that cannot be rendered in the browser.
Smart Masking
To ensure text readability, the plugin includes a built-in smart mask. The mask color automatically switches between black or white based on the dark or light DSH theme, and it periodically samples the wallpaper brightness. If the wallpaper is too bright or too dark, the mask is automatically strengthened, while also enhancing border contrast and the frosted-glass effect.
Manual Cropping and Adjustment
Multiple layout options are provided: Cover, Contain, Stretch, Original, Free, and Mirror.
- Fit row: Sets the basic layout.
- Adjust: Enters full-screen editing mode, supporting wheel zoom and drag panning. Under fixed layouts, cropping is restricted to prevent edge exposure.
Real-time Adjustment Sliders
Four real-time adjustments are provided, taking effect immediately and persisted automatically:
- Blur: Blur level
- Scrim: Mask intensity
- Borders: Borders
- Glass: Frosted-glass effect
Rotation Lists
Carousel/rotation lists can be created. The interval (1–120 minutes) and playback order (sequential or random) can be customized. When a list contains at least two available wallpapers and auto-rotation is enabled, the status bar shows the running state.
Resource Monitoring
Real-time FPS is displayed at the top of the interface, with a warning shown when the frame rate is too low. Wallpaper playback can be automatically paused when the tab is hidden or battery level is low. The prefers-reduced-motion preference also controls the initial playback state of videos.
Fault-tolerant Playback
Switching wallpapers uses smooth fade-in and fade-out. If media decoding fails, the system retries once and then falls back to a static preview image, with a notification shown in the status bar. The refresh button re-resolves the URL and restores the playback position.
Installation and Enablement¶
Run the following command in the terminal to install the plugin:
dsh plugin --profile web add wallpaper-engine-dsh
After installation, restart dsh web, then go to Settings → General → Wallpaper Engine to enable it.
Typical Usage¶
- Select a wallpaper: Choose a wallpaper from the thumbnail grid or search box; the background fades in in real time.
- Control playback: Use pause/play to control video playback, use the close button to fade out the background, and use the refresh button to rescan the library (newly subscribed Workshop content does not require a page refresh).
- Adjust the blend effects: Use the sliders to adjust blur, scrim, borders, and glass effects so the background blends more comfortably with the text.
- Adjust the composition: First set the layout with the Fit row, then use Adjust for fine zoom and pan.
- Set up rotation: Click New to create a list, populate it from the grid or by importing a WE playlist, then enable Auto-rotate.
- View resources: The resource row shows the current FPS and the status of auto-pause switches.
Notes¶
- Unsupported formats: Scene and application wallpapers (.pkg) use a private format that can only run in the Wallpaper Engine desktop client, so the current version cannot display or render them.
- Permissions and source: The plugin runs with DSH process permissions. It is recommended to review the source code and license before installation.
Summary¶
wallpaper-engine-dsh introduces Wallpaper Engine video and web wallpapers into the DSH Web interface, providing developers with a visual, personalized background solution. Its smart masking, manual cropping, rotation lists, and resource monitoring make it both aesthetically pleasing and reliable, while preserving interface stability and readability.
