In the DeepSeek Harness (DSH) Web client, when the conversation history becomes long, quickly locating items between messages is a common pain point. The dsh-conversation-density-map plugin provides a visualized “conversation density map” on the right side of the chat area, intuitively showing the overall distribution, length, and current position of the conversation using small ticks. Click any tick to jump smoothly.

Plugin Positioning

This is a client plugin maintained by weien666. It uses a tick bar to map conversation content into visual lengths. It is implemented purely on the front end, has zero dependencies, and requires no build.

Core Features

The plugin has the following features:

  1. One label per conversation turn: Each conversation turn occupies only one label. AI replies (including tool actions and multi-paragraph text) are not fragmented, forming a clean user → AI → user → AI alternation.
  2. Density at a glance: Long answers correspond to longer ticks, while short messages form dense short ticks. You can quickly determine which parts of the conversation contain more content and which parts are more fragmented.
  3. Window-adaptive layout:
    • Normal window: tick horizontal lengths are uniform, keeping the UI concise.
    • Maximized window: tick horizontal lengths intuitively show message scale and length.
  4. Hover auto-expansion: When there are many conversations and ticks are densely packed, moving the mouse near the right-side labels automatically expands them vertically for easier clicking. When there are few conversations, hovering does not move them.
  5. Hover preview: Hovering over any tick shows a preview (index / approximate character count / beginning of the content).
  6. Current position tracking: While scrolling, the conversation you are currently reading is highlighted automatically.
  7. Theme following: Colors are taken from existing Harness theme variables, with automatic light and dark mode adaptation.

Installation and Enablement

Use the official command-line tool to install it:

dsh plugin --profile web add github:weien666/dsh-conversation-density-map

After installation, restart DSH (dsh web restart) and hard-refresh the browser (Ctrl+Shift+R) to make it take effect.

Usage

After installation, you can use it with the following actions:

  1. Click to jump: Click any tick, and the page will smoothly scroll to the beginning of that conversation.
  2. View preview: Hover the mouse over a tick to display the conversation’s index, character count, and the beginning of its content.
  3. Dense expansion: When there are many conversations and ticks are crowded, moving the mouse near the right edge automatically expands the ticks vertically for easier clicking.

Notes

  1. Updates discontinued: The latest version of DeepSeek Harness already includes a built-in sidebar, so this plugin has stopped receiving updates.
  2. Technical implementation: Pure front end, zero dependencies, no build required, and uses only native browser APIs.
  3. DOM adaptation: The plugin is based on specific DOM structures (such as data-chat-flow). If a DSH upgrade changes the chat area’s DOM structure, minor adaptation may be required.
