The core design philosophy of DeepSeek Harness (DSH) is plugin-based design, allowing developers to flexibly extend the toolchain. Herdr is a terminal workspace manager designed specifically for AI coding agents. To directly control Herdr within a DSH session, you need to handle communication with Herdr’s Unix domain socket through DSH’s control plane. The dsh-plugin-herdr plugin provides this control-plane capability.
Plugin Overview¶
This is a Herdr control-plane plugin maintained by sunny0826 under the MIT license. It runs on top of DSH and provides 19 herdr_* tools through the local Herdr server’s Unix domain socket, supporting operations such as snapshots, agent management, panes, workspaces, layouts, and notifications.
Core Features¶
Control-Plane Tools¶
The plugin exposes 19 herdr_* tools over a Unix domain socket, covering Herdr’s core operations, including snapshots, agent management, pane operations, workspace control, layout adjustments, and notification viewing.
Session-Scoped UI¶
Herdr’s tab and sidebar UI is session-isolated. In non-Herdr mode, these UI elements are hidden; in Herdr mode, they display only the current session’s workspace.
Herdr Mode¶
DSH supports creating Herdr mode sessions. In this mode, you get a dedicated workspace, which is created and destroyed together with the session.
Installation and Activation¶
Before installing, ensure that DSH is installed and you have a profile (for example, web), and that the Herdr server is running.
- Install using npm:
dsh plugin --profile web add dsh-plugin-herdr
- Install from a local directory:
dsh plugin --profile web add /path/to/dsh-plugin-herdr
- Install from a tarball:
pnpm pack
dsh plugin --profile web add ./dsh-plugin-herdr-*.tgz
- Install from Git:
dsh plugin --profile web add github:sunny0826/dsh-plugin-herdr
After installation, restart the profile to load the tools and UI. Verify the installation status:
dsh plugin --profile web list
Uninstallation¶
To remove the plugin:
dsh plugin --profile web remove dsh-plugin-herdr
Restart the profile again to unload the tools, panels, and Herdr mode. Note that the plugin leaves a preset copy in $DSH_HOME/.agent-presets/herdr/; delete it manually if necessary.
Considerations¶
This plugin runs with the permissions of the current DSH process. It is recommended to inspect the source code and license before installing or using it. The plugin communicates with Herdr over a local Unix domain socket; if the Herdr server is not started, the panel may attempt to start it from PATH.
