Preface

DeepSeek Harness (DSH) adopts a plugin architecture, allowing developers to seamlessly integrate specific tools into agent workflows. In academic writing or research automation scenarios, generating standardized references and validating metadata often involves tedious manual queries or writing custom parsing logic. The dsh-cite plugin directly solves this problem: it provides standardized literature metadata search and citation formatting capabilities through the Crossref API.

Plugin Overview

dsh-cite is a DeepSeek Harness plugin maintained by STARDUSTLC666. It queries literature metadata and formats citations through the Crossref REST API. The plugin provides five tools, includes a self-check function, has zero runtime dependencies, and is cross-platform.

Installation and Enablement

Use the following command to install the plugin under the Web profile:

dsh plugin --profile web add dsh-cite

To uninstall it, use:

dsh plugin --profile web remove dsh-cite

Core Features

The plugin provides five tools, covering literature lookup, citation generation, DOI validation, and self-checking.

  1. cite_lookup
    Queries literature metadata. Supports exact DOI lookup or bibliographic search. At least one of doi or query must be provided in the parameters; limit controls the number of results returned (1–10, default 5).

  2. cite_format
    Generates a standardized citation. The doi parameter is required; style specifies the format (supports gb-t-7714 / apa / mla / chicago).

  3. cite_bibtex
    Generates a BibTeX entry. The doi parameter is required; key is an optional BibTeX key.

  4. cite_check
    Extracts DOIs from text and concurrently validates whether they exist. The concurrency level is 3, and the input order is preserved. The text parameter is required; maxChecks controls the maximum number of checks (1–50, default 10).

  5. cite_health
    Self-check tool. Probes Crossref connectivity and reports latency; no parameters are required.

Typical Usage

Example 1: Get the GB/T 7714 citation for a specified DOI

User: Give me the GB/T 7714 citation for 10.1038/nature12345
Agent:
  cite_format { doi: "10.1038/nature12345", style: "gb-t-7714" }
  → LeCun Y, Bengio Y, Hinton G. Deep learning[J]. Nature, 2015, 521(7553): 436-444.

Example 2: Validate the validity of DOIs in text

User: Check whether the DOIs in this reference list are valid
Agent:
  cite_check { text: "..." }

Notes and Limitations

  • Environment requirements: The Node version must be 22.x version 22.19 or later, or version 24 or later.
  • Data source: The data source is the Crossref REST API; no API key is required.
  • Output format: Citations are output as plain text; formats are generated according to common templates. Please verify the detailed requirements of the target journal before formal submission.
  • Privacy: No local literature data is collected or uploaded.
