The core demand of the initiative can be summed up in one sentence: The U.S. government should support international collaboration to develop technical and governance tools that enable the deliberate slowing down of automated frontier AI research when necessary.
What is more noteworthy is that OpenAI and Anthropic publicly endorsed the initiative as companies just hours after its release—a move that is uncommon in previous AI safety initiatives that were mostly signed by individuals.
